Yeah I modded one using your advice you gave me a last year. Turned out great!

I don't think you can mod them with the new body pieces because they have the cross inside the body tunnel, (or whatever you other nerds call it) and this doesn't accomadate the half technic stud thing.

Yes - You need an older R2's to make the mod work.

It's not the look so much to me but it is supposedly smaller than 6210 as well. I thought the first one was too small, so for this to be shorter and narrower that makes me concerned. Will I buy it? You bet I will. Will I buy a bunch of them? Probably not. I will be doing that with the Gunships and droid set with Jango.

Would it be wierd if I said that I only wanted the set just for Max Rebo?

It seems odd they would include ol' Max and not his little keyboard table dealie. Seems like an easy 10 or 12 pieces to help justify his inclusion.
