LDD Connecting Plate To Holder/Grip/Arm?

Hello-

Playing around with LDD and trying to come up with some alternatives for the 75192 back engine area.  One avenue I'm exploring is connecting flat plates at an angle via a skeleton arm or space skeleton arm...however LDD will not let me connect the two.  Any tips for getting around this?
