Just seen a huge billboard that there is a brand new TRU opening in my hometown at the end of February so it doesn't seem like they are closing shops in Germany....

With TRU closing stores in the UK and Spain (amongst others), while opening new store(s) in Germany, it looks like TRU is concentrating their efforts on Germany. 

Damn! What is it with Germany that they keep getting special treatment when it's about LEGO ?

To be fair they are still opening stores in the UK.  They seem to be concentrating on smaller stores though and closing the warehouse style stores.

Toys "R" Us is planning to shutter a fifth of its U.S. stores.

The troubled retailer, which declared bankruptcy in September, is looking to close down as many as 182 outlets across the country, according to a court filing late Tuesday.

Doesn't sound good. Says a number of stores and not "some" stores. Sounds like they are closing most of them and keeping a few. A shame. I hope they can get their act together and adapt to compete with Target and Amazon.

Actually the one in Columbus is a Babies R Us store.  It's right down the street from TRU, so I assume they will make that store a co-TRU/BRU.

Oh, the one by the Old Navy. I was always surprised it was still open.

There’s still a Babies R Us standalone in Reynoldsburg too.

Three stores in San Diego are closing, two BRU, one Toys R Us.

I’m not surprised by the BRUs. They are in odd locations, a little difficult to get to.

The Toys R Us is actually also the same. It’s in this bizarre location. There is no other major retail around it. It sit alone in a parking lot.

I visit it occasionally and never come out of there with anything. I think it was the first (or oldest) Toys R Us in San Diego.

@exciter1 - Yeah, that's the one.  Thankfully we will still have 3 TRU locations around the city, though who knows for how much longer.

The logic of their store closings doesn’t bode well for their future. They are closing the nicest one around me and keeping the small, rundown store a couple miles away that hasn’t seen an update since the ‘80s. This is not going to end well.

I'm honestly surprised to see mine will stay open.  It was a ghost town when I was there last week as far as the Lego aisle.  No stocking of new products at all.  

One is closing near me but it has been more of a BRU with a few toys. The Buy Buy Baby across the street must be all grins.

We go from 4 to 3 TRUs. The one closing is in a poor part of town, and a standalone store. Have good memories of the place though, it's where I picked up a long since retired X1 charger just to get a free Bionicle Quake Beast. X1 flipped quickly for profit, Quake Beast now going for $70+ on Amazon.
What surprises me is that the one single BRU we have, in a huge mall with only 2 remaining tenants, is not on the chopping block.

Our local store isn't stocking much either.  Lego end caps are full of big Furreal and True Heroes boxes.  The shelves have one set on the end to make it look more full.

Surprised only 3 are closing in Washington state. Expected more than that.

Big bad Bezos strikes again.

I'm surprised the one near me in North Texas is closing, its in a pretty popular shopping center.  However, it does have Walmarts and Super Targets very close to it that it's competing with.

My local TRU in Burlington will be closing, as well as many of the largest in the state on NJ.  These are certainly not bad shopping areas.  Very disappointing.

Which ones are those? We lost one in the east end of Scarborough the other year already. I hit Scarborough and Newmarket fairly often and they seem alright. I get to Yonge and Eg, Dufferin Mall less often and the Steeles and Sherway hardly ever. That’s TRU for me
