75192 - UCS: Millennium Falcon 2017

I don't know if I was dreaming or what but I could have sworn I saw a post where someone preordered a UCS falcon for a May the 4th celebration this year. I searched everywhere (here, shopathome) and came up with nothing though.

Surely this won't see straight discounts any time soon though. GBHQ, Dis Castle, new Death Star all have yet to see it without some magic.   Investing in the set, sure then wait.  Personal build, how much is your time worth in the wait to build.

Person behind this pic just came out and said he was fired from LEGO for it

Even so. You just gave up a career of salary in addition to Early Access to Lego sets for the rest of your life in addition to whatever discounts they receive. Is that all worth a screenshot? Hell no. Lol

But he obviously forgot to omit the store ID so I guess his intelligence is suspect anyways. LOL

For the US non-mathematicians like myself, that's 20.87 x 18.11 x 14.96 if those center-meters are correct.

In comparison, the 10188 DS box is 23 x 23.5 x 6.7 and 10179 is 25.4 x 18.8 x 7.8

This 38cm is ruining my plan to fit it in my luggage back to Brazil!

Looks like those old radar dishes will hold some value after all...didn't realize the print was different?

Curious to hear what people think about this as a long-term investment?  Obviously there will be QFLL en-mass for the holidays and this set, but beyond that I think the potential for a good return is high as, God willing, they will not remake the MF a 3rd time...I'm considering purchasing multiples to keep long-term (and one of course to build).

MF'17, Long term investment?  hum.  This is a very long term hold prospect.  I would say minimum 5 year hold to see any kind of major profit.  Of course, holiday flips are always great and will sell if priced accordingly.  The UCS 10179 climbed higher and higher...but the minute the rumors started about the '17 version the (reseller) price started the fall.  In the past three months alone, the average price for 10179 has fallen from $4500 to $2500.  This is expected.  Why would anyone pay $2500 or more for a "NEW" set that is going to sell for $800?

Lego will make it again.  Maybe again, in 2027 we see the 3rd version and the same cycle will repeat it self.

In the end, If you have money to invest in multiple sets (like I do) and are ok having $800+ sitting in a corner...then by all means do it.   Good luck, Invest wisely &  happy building.

Everyone remember that leaked pic from TLS POS a few months ago? The one that was marked "75192 Confidential $799"?

One page back... but thanks for bringing it up again! It is an interesting read

Well it did say confidential so yeah. It's no wonder he got fired. And it's a perfectly  good reason to get fired.

I can see this available for many many years. So many will want and so many will save for it. I think they will pull a death star with this.

A LEGO store retail associate or low level manager is not exactly a high-paying gig.

But if you factor in money saved due to discounts I'm sure for some of us that could Eclipse a standard entry level salary. LOL

Then it would be better to be a shelf stacker in @exciter1´s local Walmart.

So I decided to make my own MOC of the falcon because I couldn't wait.... Sending it to Lego Ideas for the 10 year remake of this one....

Part of 10179's value, IMO, was the idea that TLG was unlikely to ever make something like that again. People made the decision to shell out for a collectible and conversation piece (There's a winery/brewery near me that has the MF and SSD displayed in the tasting room. Never fails to get comments).  Now that people know that TLG can or will redo sets, it will be interesting to see the value of 75192 in 5 to 7 years when the rumors begin again.  If an AFOL misses out on it this time (even assuming that the window closes), will they be willing to be that person who bought it for $5000 in 2022 when they might get another chance for the 50th anniversary? I'm still planning on trying to get at least one to hold long-term, but I don't expect a repeat of 10179's performance.

In 2007-2008 that was a logical assumption that 10179 was a one off. Star Wars was still owned by George Lucas. There were no films planned to be made. I think Clone Wars was running on TV (never watched it) and that was it.

Now Disney have it and we have Movies scheduled at least until 2020 and I suspect once Episodes 7, 8 & 9 are done - assuming its been treated as a trilogy - they will do 10 - 12 which will take us to 2026.

I agree, greedy Disney will milk the franchise for as long as it can, and so will LEGO. Those buying more than 1x 75192 will likely face disappointment down the line and I very much doubt that history will repeat itself. Undercutters will be waiting in the wings to ensure that profit, if any, is kept low.

LEGO... Your half-arsed attempt to recreate the rear of the ship has stopped me buying one! If you're going to con us out of £649.99, at least make it look good! Why should I MOC it if your lazy designers couldn't be bothered?
