TLG never had to add extra bricks to make sure you can finish a set. Mega blocks has to due to cheap production and lack of caring. Even when mega block does, I still Will not get one of the connector pins.

I've never see that set, but I'm starting to think that's pretty awesome.

As for the upside down box - I really think TLG thought, "let's display it upside down in the picture; no one will be able to figure it out."  I don't think any additional thought went into it.

Yeah, its like wrapping a Christmas present.  Sometimes you forget which is the top.

I don't think they forgot. I think they purposely wrapped it upside down, and really thought that no one would think to flip the image.

Here you go.  The castle is huge.  The dragon's teeth aren't sharp.  He's more of a brute force kind of guy.  The alternate build shown on the back makes a tower almost 6 feet tall.  Too bad it fell before I could get a photo.

To give you an idea the stated size of the new Falcon box should be the Duplo Castle box plus 1 or 2 Ewok Villages.

For some box comparison...

10179 MF = 25.40 x 18.80 x 7.80

10188 DS = 23.00 x 23.50 x 6.70

4785 Dulpo Black Castle = 22.64 x 18.70 x 10.04

Each set above weighed over 17lbs (10179 was 23 lbs with the manual).

Gotcha. On the fly math wasn't ever one of my super powers.

 So LEGO is claiming the set is going to be 97,200 CM3s.

That 4785 Duplo castle box is about 10,795 CM3s (4,250 cubic inches).  Using this size box will allow LEGO ample space for the bricks, manual, extra inner strength cardboard, one light bley 1x1 cheese slope and 13 Chima Worriz Fire Bike Polys for extra cushion.

You forgot to cube the factor

10795 ccm are only about 659 cubic inches, 97,200 ccm are only 5931 cubic inches.

@Feanor   That's why I only deal in feet and inches when it comes to boxes. LxHxW is how I roll using a calculator.  ?

Thoughts? perspective in picture doesn't tell the justice but I think the box size is about to be 2x Sandcrawler and 1 Ewok Village/Silent Marry box size.  Looks about right.

Wouldn't it have been better to highlight a set like Snowspeeder or some other Star Wars set?  The London Bus doesn't need more advertisement.

That cockpit location on the box just feels weird...given the angle of the MF. The cockpit seems to be pushed way up in the corner of the box. It doesnt work with the long nose of the falcon...for a good looking box art that is

Maybe it does, I'm not convinced I want it yet.

I wonder if they'll do something similar with the packaging that they did with the Porsche set and make it nicer than a regular set.
