Considering the fact that the new one will have implemented interior I wouldn't call a "copy-cat" this one.

here's where the extra money goes (when compares to 10179's MSRP)

  • inflation
  • licensing fee to Disney / LucasFilm.  i'm sure it increases regularly.
  • additional bricks, minifigs, stickers, printed elements, etc...
  • projected extra money the Lego suits know they can charge since many SW fans are fanatics.  Only problem is ANY $800 MSRP Lego set will sit on retail shelves and warehouses after the initial demand is fulfilled.  It's too much money even w/ nice discounts.

Also this set is going to have a very long shelf life and be basically print on demand. TLG did not want to invest heavily out of the gate on this one. This set is going to determine alot about how this company operates going forward. The 2-3 year cycle is on its last legs.

I agree with you.  I think LEGO already has changed the way they sell sets.  If it sells, it stays...If not...it goes.  But at $800, I really don't think LEGO really cares one way or the other if this set sells.  It's a "Statement Set."  It's the biggest and best and makes for an awesome display piece at stores.  With all these new movies with the Falcon in it, it's going nowhere soon in my opinion.

If Lego has changed to production by demand then I predict a very long run for this kit because the demand will come from resellers. Fire Brigade, Doll house Death Star, , London Bridge, T1 Camper, etc., etc.. I predict a very long wait for a mature investment on this one. Also don't forget how many years it took for 10179 to reach $5k. My buy in was $400 from Amazon and I was happy to dump them at $800 four maybe five years later? $4K was/is a lot of money to have tied up for that long.

I'm dumping my Fire Brigades this year. They will never reach the price of previous modulars. I'm not convinced any modular post Fire Brigade, will. Too many players on the field.

Looks like this is one set I will sit out, Maybe get 3 for my sons for Long Long Term Investment, but as investment for myself I will be to old to even pick the 30 lb box up. I could be close to 75-80 years old by the time this retires. I hate to say it the good old days for me are only 2 yrs away, and then thats it, I will have a few thousand sets to start selling that will be pretty old and up in price.     Ed

The $800 will separate the men from the boys....

If this one will have certification of authenticity that came with first numbered 10000 boxes I'm going in full throttle day one.

Count me in. I will be in line day-1 if they offer something like this.

I've heard some conflicting reports... some say there is an interior, some say it's the same as 10179. Any definitive info, it seems just like one persons word against another[emoji52]

Trying to find the post of mine that was quoted...

Maybe it's both. 10179 with an interior.

if 75192 is 10179 Take II and has an interior, it might be very small like the small minifig space in 10121 ISD.

for those who built a 10179, it's not really designed for moving room to room let alone removing top panels to access an interior for minifigs.  the inner structure is all about strength / holding it together.

I agree with this as well, and this is the very reason that I want to go purchase the set on day 1.  I want to show support for Lego producing sets of this nature, with the hopes that they'll continue to put out even bigger and more audacious sets.

Agreed.  I'll buy this day one for that purpose ( on top of really wanting it) ?

folks, obviously lego is going to throw in first edition swag if it's a 10179 remake.
the letter of cert will look like...

Assuming it is a remake, from a trading standards perspective, strictly speaking it's not a first edition, more like 4th or 5th edition depending on how many production runs 10179 had! A fifth edition certificate doesn't quite have the same ring to it!

I don't get this ... LEGO is releasing a large scale Millenium Falcon, and everyone is complaining because it will look like a ..... Millenium Falcon? What did you expect?

a huge mf is welcomed with opened arms just like the 75259 was until it was revealed to be basically a clone of it's predecessor.  thus it appears many folks want a 75192 ucs millennium falcon that isn't another 10199 Toy Shop or 10188 DS-like design rehash.

let's hope lego learned a lesson with the sets above and will make 75192's overall  design somewhat original.

i forgot one potential reason to be included in the increased $300 cost since 10179.  since many retailers including lego's own shop @ home usually offers free postage, lego probably built-in some cost for this.  overall postage fees for large and heavy boxes (10179's box was huge and at least 24lbs when shipped) have increased quite a bit before 2010.  Same goes for the 75259 DS..

LEGO is not learning anything - They just don't get it.

How this could be true, I do not know - but it is.

By the way, it's likely too late for them to learn, and undo the damage they have done - they have squandered an amazing status that most companies wouldn't even dream of having.
