What happens if the set designer signs more sets next week or next month at another event?  What happens if the fakes start hitting eBay?  All I'm saying is that if you have one of these, selling now for $5000 or more is money in the bank.  It could change big time in a few weeks.

Sell the signed one, order a normal one at 2xVIP and get your dog to sign it. Then you will have your cake and eat it as no one else will have that version.

The elephant in the room is what benefits the VIP card will offer. What happens when they send the second one out to the original buyer by post? Which one is valid to claim the promos and what promos will be offered?

I'm gunna take a risk that Lego don't do another midnight launch signing event with 100 exclusive VIP cards between now and Christmas. If prices remain high I may join the dark side once I have one to build sat next to the signed copied.

Do yourself a favor and get it graded...

This could help protect your values.

The only thing of extra value are those specially numbered VIP cards. The autograph is worthless. These designers aren't Mark Hamill.  They go to big events all the time and if you felt like dragging your Falcon to one they're attending they'll happily sign it for you.  Nobody was looking for designer autographs on 10179, if they wanted a special version they wanted the original numbered batch. This time around those numbered versions are even more rare.  That's what they're paying a premium for.

Now that these sets are selling for such astronomical numbers, the word will get out. People will replicate the cards. People will forge the signatures and even replicate LEGO receipts. As Mos Eisley said, the designers will be at other shows signing anything people put in front of them. If you sell now, people know it's legit. In a month...who knows?

...Or, be like me and hold onto that collectible set and watch its value shrivel up. But it's only money.

I knew this was coming but I had to hang on to one of my numbered 10179s.  I could have sold last year and bought a replacement now for less, but I like knowing that what I have is a 100% legit numbered 10179.

Same here. To me, that set will always have a special place in my heart. To get rid of it would be against everything I've stood for on this site.

Signed with VIP card just went for £5600 on eBay. 1f632.png

I don't think this sale will go through. Look at the bid history. Two bidders pushed it past £3,300 and one of those has a low feedback profile. Lots can go wrong there!

Maybe, but people will still see it as a reference value for going rate. It´s not what it´s worth, it´s what people think it´s worth that matters.

Hmmmm. I think what people are after is the complete package from the opening event. If you have a full set of card, posters, falcon mini booklet, freebies and set and they are all signed, it´s what is bumping the price up greater than the sum of the parts.

A signed set with no VIP card went for 1900 GBP. A signed card alone is going for between 600 and 1000 GBP. Booklets and posters for much less than 100.

Let´s see what the next full pack goes for and then decide if it´s better to sell just the car separately. Current highest bid is 3700 GBP with a day to go so that already suggests where the value is.

That one the seller is donating a percentage of the final sale to charity so that might bump up its price.

"So for instance, if bids go over £2000 we will donate 20%; over £3000 - 30% and so on."

On Dutch auction site Marktplaats there are several sets offered where offered bids are now going up from €1800 to €2100. :O

Too bad I didn't order any myself. That would have been some easy money! :P

Damn.. same here, too bad I didn't order. Didn't thought people were that impatient.

I will in the end pick up some in Germany, no way I will pay that Dutch Lego tax of +50 euro.

Complete fakes aside, the only part of that full set of opening night items that you can never get again is the specially numbered VIP cards. Every other other item could be purchased and signed in the future. Obviously, short term, the set itself is getting a premium right now because it's unavailable for ordering so a package of the items is going for more than just selling the card by itself. However, once the set is easy to get, the only thing that will make those opening night packages different from anyone else offering the set will be the VIP cards from that night.

TLG are not above printing more VIP cards or changing the name and issuing a new card for the official launch on 1st October or even nearer SW movie release.

I say make hay while the sun shines and sell the lot for the most you can get before 1st October - they may suddenly "find" some in the warehouse.

Whether to sell separately or as a job lot is trickier - you may make more with the set but then it could be easier to sell them separately.

Need to check how the signed London Buses are doing.

You can always travel to Billund or ask anyone with RLUG or RLFM status to ask for signature. They have numerous meetings with designer teams responsible for making most of the themes for TLG.
You can travel to LEGO House in Denmark and get your copy signed even by Hans himself and this will be the only copy in the World with REAL LEGO DESIGNER. Not by project supervisor or Design Team Marketing Manager  who's decisions was mainy narrowed to yes or no.  I'd love to have the signature of those who spend tiresome hours working weeks and hundreds of hours on this project.

That's why myself and anders from Zussammengebaut have the only copies of Saturn V with Mike Psiaki signature and I have the only one copy worldwide with Jamie Berard Signature of his flagship project - Assembly Square.

Both are in my super-secret underground vault in Pyongyang.

What's to stop those designers signing more sets of the Saturn and Assembly Square?

If more MFs can be signed, why not yours?

(genuinely interested, curious about the special circumstances of those)

Nothing, they don't care about your problems with potential value drops on second market. If you approach them, they will sign the set for you.
If potentially ISD (or any re-release) will come next year, probably signing will happen again so you will be always able to get your MILF  box with you for the event and get your sample signed.

Everybody here is talking about the popularity of this set, profits of LEGO , "investors" etc.   But who is considering long term numbers ?  Lego made two “fatal” errors  with Death Star and Falcon.  They destroy the most important thing in long term conditions, the trust of buyers to this company.   They did it  once before some yers and almost bankrupt.

It doesn’t matter the short term profit, even if it is millions.  Decisions like this create disappointment to the long term investors who were keeping about the 60% of the stock in expensive sets.  Just look all our portfolios numbers.  About  7% down in all expensive sets just in 2  months.  This shows the trend for the future. Lego cannibalize in a bad way what makes them the biggest toy company in the world, the customer.
