Ok I think I have decided

I will *try* and get it on the 14th instead of Double VIP points. I mean $40 isn't really that much back from $800. Plus, if there is any set I've been waiting to spend my VIP points on, it's THIS set. Nothing next year sounds too interesting so far... 

I really want the black card and whatever benefits I get from it! So.... yeah!

 

EDIT: Does anyone know if the black card thing is online? Or is it in-store only, both in-store and online...

I spoke with another store manager today. No promos on 14 Sep. All 75192 purchases (in store and online) made between 14 Sep and 31 Dec will be able to register for the black VIP card that will be mailed out at a later date to be used in 2018. Supposedly, the card will "unlock" special deals throughout the year....no more information on specifics.

There is no information about the VIP card being limited to 20,000. That appears to be a single-source rumor at this time.

My plan right now is to purchase in-store during double VIP points + free gift offer in October.

Starts October 10th, calendar is on the Lego website.

There's a raffle, where everyone who buys a falcon enters. Everyone supposedly gets a prize. So it wouldn't be a surprise if there were a few leftover slugs being offered up as prizes.

Given the chaos that ensued at the opening of the store I'm going to give this a miss. There's not enough to make me go through that pain again. Since there will only be a limited number available you will need to queue early and probably for a few hours.

 

Also...

1) the actual lead designer is not there.

2) black VIP card will be available as long as you buy before end of the year

3) the display case that would be on offer sounds a bit lame.

 

However the main issue I have is the thought of lugging around a heavy box worth £650 in the early hours of the morning, whilst trying to get a cab is asking for trouble. Will wait till double VIP in Oct.

A little off topic, but how popular do we think that exclusive VIP Lego Mini Store is going to be? With double points + this free give away, maybe takes the sting out of the 75192 a bit.

Good point. But from experience getting good resale value on these promos is very volatile and depends on timing.

the entry level for this freebie is ridiculously high so probably will perform well from Day 1

Looks like it's a polybag as opposed to a boxed set, which will make it less desirable and have an impact on price.

i was keen to go the Leicester Square launch. But now I'm feeling 50/50.

logisyics clearly a hassle even for a Londoner. But if there is t anything exclusive im not sure what the benefit is.

vip card holder sounds a bit "meh" too.

an exclusive set would tip the balance and make it worth it. But I think that's unlikely... no hard facts

what a enormous disappointment. especially when you see the poly bag itself, it's this cheap plastic foil same used for R2-M3 and Scariff Stormtrooper which feels extremely cheap in hand.

Cost cutting measure already kicking in. Got to focus on those margins! The COO is doing his job!

Well at least you don't have to carry it about, remember they thought of that thus the box with wheels.

FYI the first 100 at the Leicester Square midnight event will get the VIP card there and then in an exclusive display case.

Someone on Reddit claims to have gotten a special email inviting them to the midnight release party at their local LEGO Store.
