Wrong. It is exactly the same thing they did with Lord of the Rings sets... They have been released exactly 10 years after the first movie was released...

Yes Mauro, and from the words of TLG themselves, that line tanked because they completely missed the momentum and target audience. So not really a great example nor the for that matter a stellar aftermarket performer all around save for maybe Helm's Deep...

We also saw Ghostbusters stuff released well after the original movies and Ecto 1 wasn´t exactly a slow seller.

Well, that doesn't really compare either Eric, GB had one Ideas set and one huge expensive adult-oriented set. Not really a bread-and-butter case for TLG as I think they feel about HP line. No, no, I feel they know something we don't. Gaming crowds, are there any rumors of a future HP-based game? I seriously doubt they would re-start a line without a serious market research and/or new material to support it...

A HP game would not help a lot in my eyes... I think that nearly every child today is growing up with harry Potter movies... I cannot confirm that as my small girl is only 3 years old, therefore to young to know it... ;-)

I hear from the pothead in my class that a dodgy fan film is coming out.

Pretty sure that 7 Books, 1 Play, 8 Movies + 2 Prequels and another planned, AND dedicated theme park aren't making the franchise any money at all.

This looks great - At first, I thought that the minifigs looked a bit off (that they all looked a bit too babyish/cartoony) - but  now that I realize that they are portraying them when they were small kids, it makes lots of sense.

For those worrying about the old set values. The HP theme is mostly immune from the great damage that remakes cause. There will be some impact on specific previously exclusive minifigs, but not too much. And certainly some hoarders of the old sets will look to get out (which will have some effect) - but it won't be lasting damage. Plus, the renewed interest in the theme will absolutely help the older sets/minifigs.

HP stuff is pretty popular so I don't think they have a lot to worry about. Besides, TLG thought Angry Birds was a good idea so I'm not too sure they care about market research.

They know to their cost that Nexo and Escort Girls were commercial disasters, SW is also losing steam and that HP and Dinos sold and will sell. Nothing more nothing less.

Even if there is no more new HP, the theme has legs and people who missed the last wave will want them. Conspiracy theories are just that.

The Fantastic Beasts movie was aimed at a slightly older target age compared to the Harry Potter movies, which especially with the first two movies was very watchable for kids below 10 years old. My 11 year old son has watched all the movies, though the last few were a slight bit frightening for him. But he hasn't watched Fantastic Beasts ... yet. His situation is far from unique, which I think is a good explanation why the Fantastic Beasts sets didn't do nearly as well as the HP movie sets. 

It's a mistake LEGO keeps making, when they produce LEGO sets connected to movies which are watched by late-teenagers who don't play with LEGO any longer. Kids actually playing with LEGO are in the 3-13 age group by far. Of course there are also older kids still playing with LEGO, but they are in the small minority compared to their peers. It's the exact time we call The Lego Dark Ages ...  

Yes, as I said in another thread, the same mistake they made with LoTR. I for one am happy they rebooted the theme, I am really curious to see if they will be able to sustain it like SW theme during pre-Sequel Trilogy era... I might even get my feet wet here, I believe the QF potential in a run-up to Christmas 2018 will be significant.

The issue with Angry Birds is that they were late to the dance.  The craze was over.  I know this from my son telling me so.  

I would really like to see some sort of advanced Harry Potter sets geared to the older fan who grew up with Harry Potter.

We are getting a UCS Hogwarts for 500 euros.

So true about being late, it has happened time and time over but there was no need to have a 1.5 year lifecycle - they could easily have put them in the 2016 Xmas sale.

GBHQ is PRETTY late to the party, and going quite well. I do not expect anything different from the HP D2C. If the set is nice, it sells. Quite simple.

GBHQ is a top notch set and would do well in any market IMO.

I reckon Yellow Submarine is the slowest film tie-in release. @exciter1 is probably still waiting for that movie to drop, though.

Could a "Wizard of Oz" set be next? Emerald City or pehaps a Contraction Tin Man? Or... even a Yellow Brick Road? LOL... I actually have over 5,000x yellow 4x2 tiles in stock for a UCS version!

I'm really looking forward to these sets, despite the fact that I've never seen the movies or read the books!  My wife is a fan and we're planning to go to Universal Studios, so it looks like the perfect storm for me to get into HP...especially as I'm getting worn down by Disney Star Wars.

...and the fact that my kids will probably into it when they get older. At what age do kids get into HP?

5 for mine, but then again , maybe because their dad is a bit too much into it

My kids started with the books when they were 8. Then followed by the audio books during drives and while relaxing at home. Then the movies at age 9, with the later, darker movies at age 10. HP is still going strong in our house after 4 years - we just came back from Universal and really loved it, all of us ... Kids brought their robes and wands and had a blast. These sets are high on our wishlist.

 

Oh, and we didn't need the books because I bought them all when they came out originally - read the first book to "see what it was all about" and was hooked immediately. That book is still a great read even after having read/heard & seen it about a 100 times ....
