So, the person who said the theme was getting cancelled now predicts there will be a 2018 wave of sets with new set numbers 72xxxx.

72001 Lance's Hiver Jouster
72002 Twinfector
72003 Berserker Bomber
72004 Tech WiZard
72005 X-bow
72006 Axl's Rolling Arsenal

Don´t know what to make of it all, apart from that 2018 should be EOL for the theme.

If TLBM and Ninjago movies prove successful at shifting sets and reigniting interest I can very much see more movies for Lego IP themes.

Just wait for the Friends and Elves movies

And the new sets come out in late December so people with access to the wholesale catalogue should be leaking things soon.

Latest Lego USA catalog has NO Nexo Knights in it... which I find unusual for an ongoing theme.

Doh! I did not even notice when I thumbed through. Sad. Also no Elves.

Prelims of these have now been leaked. 72006 (tank) is the biggest set and will be exclusive to certain shops.

They all look pretty dire but at least there is no more purple.

Continuing the Nexo theme is a nightmare. First, the whole theme is out of logic (knights with laser guns, omg). Second, the sets are awful  -the first wave from 2016 was a little bit acceptable, but second wave from this year are horrible. Same trend as in Ninjago – first skeleton sets were OK, but last years are horrible combinations of dragons, psycho vehicles, etc. Now we have 2 psycho themes – ninjago and nexo  - both are almost same mad mixes of colors and unreal machines. Third, Nexo is blocking normal castle theme.

A vanilla Castle theme was tried a couple years ago and met with nigh moderate approval altogether. I would imagine something about the concept and general feel behind Nexo Knights and Ninjago have been received well enough to continue forward. Genre mixing has and continues being popular in all forms. Why be stuck under the confines of a strict rule set (aka reality) when a realm of unlimited potential can be born from one's imaginative mind's eye. If anything that is the LEGO Company's core concept and perhaps what attributes to such themes ongoing popularity. Also the level of technology helps these themes to be more relatable with the targeted audience of the present day world.

oh goodness, here comes the 'i want classic castle!!!!!' discussion again.

it's not happening!!

I could totally imagine a medieval monster hunter type theme. Old school Castlevania atmosphere, paladins, dark knights, powerful wizards, clerics and adventurers hunting vampires, werewolves, gorgons and other beasts. One thing was sure for LEGO in recent years: people dig monsters, and a theme like this could be more relatable to people than nexotrash.

Honestly, with Harry Potter, they can have all the wizards they need. I see this is as the swansong for Nexo, R+D budget is clearly minimal and these sets are just filler to keep the commitment to a 3 year run. Don´t be surprised to see it ending in the summer.

No, absolutely not. Entirely different atmosphere and characters. Less goofy, no modern technology, except some gothic electricity.
