I agree.  After all, it's a box of plastic.  I am still amazed at how much more LEGO will charge for a set with multiple,  unique minifigures.  A LEGO Chess set can have 20+ minifigures and 800 pieces and sell for $50-$60.  What would a STAR WARS set with 20 minifigures cost?
