It was Argos - wife picked it up yesterday and I took it back this afternoon.

When I took it back, the assistant snipped through the seals and opened up the box to check the contents 🤪

My last John Lewis purchase was Assembley Square and it had a nice big ding in it. Kept it as it was a good price and a set i really wanted. Expect better from them, though!

Argos, there's a surprise - NOT. That's one retailer I've not bothered with in years as I basically returned everything that I bought and availability is always at a branch NOT near me. There was only one worse IMHO and that was TRU who got what they deserved in the end.

I've seen Smyths snip the seals also as minifig theft (opening glued box edges with a hairdryer) is quite common unfortunately. At least Argos checked in your case as often it's just put back into "circulation" unchecked. AFAIK, Lego can supply retailers with new adhesive seals.

IMHO, a deal is only a deal if you don't get 25% wiped off the resale value with a damaged box.

One Day Flash Sale (UK Only) MF at £149.99. Be Quick.

  • One thing I have noticed is that sets are plateauing at "a" price at n months after retiring. 10197 is around £300, it still has not increased in the 18 months since I sold my last one. 10211

  • Though this version totally blows the original away (and is from around where I live):

Ah, I didn't realise minifig theft was a thing! Makes more sense now, although it made me sad to see the seals chopped open. Better that than find out Jeff Goldblum is missing!

what do argos do with all the opened sets then?

I think some go on eBay judging by some of the trash that mates have bought, but I would suggest instead that they shove them up their arses. I have had double-sealed sets from Lego.co.uk in the past and I suspect that these could be inspected retailer returns? It's only a guess and I'm sure you know a lot more than I do.

TOOS meaning it'll be back. IMHO no rush to buy at RRP as BF only weeks away. I'm not buying big sets yet anyway.

black friday is an absolute shambles for brits & will be worse this year. anything worth picking up is always virtually gone as we are an hour behind & these low limits on everything are painful. glad i'm done this year, i cant see it being anything other than a problem to pick up stuff in quantities.

I know somebody who bought 50 Hogwarts Express from IWOOT for £47.99 each over BF last year. Also Amazon had the SC Minis for £26.99 with limit 30.  I won't bother with IWOOT again as those Las Vegas' were all soaked when they arrived and we have a lot of rain still to come ;-(

I'm going to wait patiently and see what happens.

Off topic, but the whole UK has been a shambles since Boris took over. Sorry, I just had to say it - LOL.

anyone pick anything cool up prime day. got a lorry load of trafalgars @ 45% off myself. passed on some really good deals tho.

Trafalgar, Dubai and Tokyo which expect to do ok on even if takes some time. Also picked up Command Centre and Ghost Train...more of a gamble on those, i know nothing about hidden side sets!

All of those were around 40% off

Also, Ghost Train came in individual original lego brown boxes (actually more substantial than usual, i.e. double walled folding postal boxes), have never seen this style of lego box, or individual boxes before on sets that size (e.g. similar sized VW Beetle is stocked in box of three)

I think it's the amazon frustration free packages, I received it this way for Newbury Haunted High School complete with a "Do not open before xx date".

Las Vegas was on IWOOT earlier this evening at £31.99, never used them before and was considering it despite comment above suggesting might not arrive in good condition. Toys excluded from first time buyer 10% off otherwise I would have gone for it.... but now gone...

Wonder if other retailers also about to get (one last?) shipment

John Lewis LEGO offer below, up to £40 off.

Old Trafford, Crocodile Locomotive, Barracuda Bay, Diner and Treehouse all in stock this morning

I've gone ahead and bought the treehouse (and the HP advent calendar to get over £200). I'm not convinced that it will be available for less before it disappears. TOOS again on the Lego website. I'm suffering from FOMO too much to risk leaving this just to maybe save £10 in a future sale.

I was tempted by the treehouse as I doubt it will be any less this year however I have a sneaky feeling its eol date will be extended so I've passed for now.
