Also, I think the discounts never topped 30%, and were short-lived. Every other retailer has been cleaned out and these cityscapes are rarely mentioned on here. Isn't this a solid base for a good performer?

I picked them both up for £10 each when Smyths clearanced them but that's a good while back

One Day Flash Sale (UK Only) MF at £149.99. Be Quick.

  • One thing I have noticed is that sets are plateauing at "a" price at n months after retiring. 10197 is around £300, it still has not increased in the 18 months since I sold my last one. 10211

  • Though this version totally blows the original away (and is from around where I live):

I think we can expect an incoming message from @TabbyBoy that he got 999 of them for 4.99 pounds each! I´d actually be disappointed if that weren´t true.

He's probably moved each of them on for £35 cash already.

I've got none.

...and so 3 days of double VIP is ending. Still many 'retiring soon' sets remain in play. I guess we now wait 8 or 9 days for the 30% off laxative to take effect.

I'm waiting for the 50% off like last year.

I want 55 % at least.. otherwise Im not in.. ?? .. that nice UK lady on customers line trickled me into thinking that she has the VERY LAST piece of Mr. Wu Brickhead on stock that she could immediately dispatch for me.. I had no reason to disbelieve her.. so I planted an order, which did not (at the end) even qualify for free shipping (which was extra 11 GBP).. I was so amazed and thrilled by her total understanding, assistance and vigor to help me .. that I submitted a very personal, thoughtful feedback how great she was to help me..

umm. now I feel like a D-head. not a B-head! .. i wonder if she was told to mislead the customers or in the blind as i was..

Those "rare", "retiring soon" brickheadz are available in Smyths Toys at the moment

It´s their job to sell and they are good at it but you really wanted them, admit it. YOu can always send them back.

Yes, I wanted them to complete my collection. I just wanted them cheaper (if possible). I usually dont send back items that are ordered unless its damaged.

The SW ones are cheaper right now and these will soon be available everywhere so it looks like we got played. Does damaged pride count as a reason to return?

No, I mean if I order something which comes exactly as depicted and pictured on the web, I take it like it was my decision to buy it in the first place. You also wouldnt walk in in a store on the street, buy something and then after a couple of minutes return back requesting a return. So this is the way how I see / feel it. The damaged factor is of course critical, esp. with collectors items.

What if they reduce the price 2 weeks after you bought it?

speaking as a customer not some B2B partner: my problem. I still dont see that would qualify me for any rrefund or something. It would probably have to do a lot with a difference iin our shopping cultures. Western countries are used to "price match" scenario but its not customary here.  I bought several sets in local toychains like two weeks ago - for a great discount, I guess around 45 % - they just discounted  it on Friday for a couple of % more. So I take it like it was my decision and perhaps I could wait a bit - or not because it could sell out and this extra small discount doesnt matter anyway

This is one of the reasons why Lego don´t normally offer discounts (I think it was discussed a few weeks ago). Their generous returns policy is open to abuse and ends up costing them money because they pay for the return of the first order and they outbound shipment of the replacement and the original orders (if over the minimum for free shipping) and they have the stock issue to balance too.

People buying with a view to reselling count every penny and for sure they will be inundated with returns if the Brickheadz (or other hard to find items) go on sale next week at 30% off - or indeed make it to 50% off within 90 days of buying. I only ever made a return because this happened to me, but I didn´t reorder the items as by that stage they were clearly turds. I think it happened a lot with Doctor Who and a couple of other sets that were jumping in and out of stock when they got to 50% off.

For them, it´s better to offer 2xVIP to encourage future purchases.

Could also claim rightly so, these brickheadz were mis advertised as retiring soon, very happy I did not pile in on these although the temptation was strong

I decided to risk a TOA, partly because I might want it myself in the future. Quidco 10% helped.

Unfortunately that deal has disappeared today.  Back to 3%

so I take it like you have the same standing and opinion on this as me.

75098 Assault on Hoth is currently on 10% off from LEGO Shop at Home with the retiring soon label. Does anyone think this will be the best offer this set will have or do you think it'll be cheaper else where soon?

It all depends on stock levels. Lego may struggle to sell it so much that it goes into the sale.  Or stocks could get wiped out before then, unlikely as outs not a popular set but styrene things hasten when sets are retiring.  If it's a set you really must have then probably best to take this deal.

just translating my earlier post. Damn swype has gone strange since I updated my S8.

Didn't SaH have sets at 50% off this time last year? I'm sure I bought Elves Secret Marketplaces and Friends Tree Houses back then. Sales are such a damp squib everywhere so let's hope the post Xmas sales help. Maybe TRU will have a liquidator's fire sale?
