One Day Flash Sale (UK Only) MF at £149.99. Be Quick.

  • One thing I have noticed is that sets are plateauing at "a" price at n months after retiring. 10197 is around £300, it still has not increased in the 18 months since I sold my last one. 10211

  • Though this version totally blows the original away (and is from around where I live):

Saw this one, I would think that’s not a bad price for building or a personal collection but not for investing unless it were quite a bit cheaper ??

Also thought long and hard about the UCS TIE at TRU and came to the same conclusion. Don’t forget if you go for it cashback is available though ?

Got the £20 voucher last year, for the two week period it was valid for they had no offers, sales or promotions everything full retail,so of very dubious worth.

Depending on who is at the register, you can stack and even if it is at rrp, you can pick up a few retiring sets. I picked up the last of the indominus Rex and t-Rex tracker sets from my local store.

Is it? I checked the two major names and neither were showing any.

The 10214 Tower Bridge is a superb model, yet quite a repetitive build. I'd personally wait for it to become even cheaper as it's been out for years and show no signs of retirement at all. I made the mistake of buying 12 of them back in 2012 and I had to sell them all at a small loss to make space for other sets. Same with the 10220 VW Camper, that's also here to stay. I must admit, that I think the Tower Bridge will do well once it does retire as it is simply the most beautiful bridge in the World, right? However, it's likely to return at some point like the Taj Mahal did. I've had nasty experiences from TRU and will never buy from them again no matter what bargains they have.

Here are some positive observations.

1) There are not many crazy discounts around. Discounts have been measured and reasonable, and are short lived. Good demand.

2) A lot of sets (100) are on back order. Strong demand.

3) The problem of oversupply, as acknowledged by Lego themselves, seems to be getting better (some exceptions of course).

4) A good number of 2017 retired sets disappear completely from retailers within days or a couple of weeks. Many have been quick out of the blocks on the dance floor.

5) Lego wins first case against Chinese copy factory.

If 2017 was a year of oversupply, quick flipping and steep discounts, maybe 2018 will be more promising for the investor. Yes, I am a glass half-full person.

Agreed completely on the limited amount of discounts.

the recent Asda reduction run was very good across a nice selection of sets, but it didn't last long at all. Tesco v disappointing. TRU had good value on some sets when combined with a freebie / bricktober.

i wonder what the Christmas sales will bring?

Hopefully 3 (not 2) for 2 sales.

Smyths have increased their prices, so i bet the £20 off a £100 spend will be next week. Maybe Tesco will do their 1/3 off next Friday too, i don't think it will be a 3 for 2, hopefully the restrictions won't be added as surely they need to clear their stock.

Thanks... Let's hope this ends up being a good deal if it goes ahead. I've not bought from Smyths before and I need another source after banning myself from 2 others this year ;-)

They come low on my ‘get it to me in one piece’ list and they’re pretty slapdash at one of my local stores when it comes to placing on the shelf. Putting the heavy sets up top is a case of throw them on and only worry if they bounce off again!

I go for collection every time if I can.

On the plus side I’ve found their staff to be very helpful and non robotic.

I no longer have sets delivered except from Amazon and LEGO where I have little choice. So far this year, I've complained about 1 set to Amazon (full refund and keep it!) and sent 16 out of 42 sets back to LEGO who are by far the worst for me currently. I've checked the shipping boxes and the sets inside are damaged/punctured not the box so it's LEGO employing monkeys in their warehouse. LEGO CS have been good and let me keep all promos after returning punctured sets along with extra VIP points, so I'm happy(ish) however, this should not happen! I'd be heartbroken if a 75192 MF was punctured so that will have to be a collection (not London!).

Follow up point. Quick calculation:

Asda: 53 out of stocks (about 40%)

Tesco: 37 out of stocks (about 17%)

John Lewis: 62 out of stocks (about 20%)

Lego 143 out of stocks, or backorder (about 21%).

I  wonder if these figures support my idea that a supply glut could be over, in a general sense of course. Also worth considering that these out of stocks were achieved without any really steep discounts or obvious pricing errors.
