Hudson's Bay Lego - No seriously

I know, I know, "But Jeff" you may ask, "what does Hudson's Bay have to do with toys in general and lego in particular?" Before today I'd have asked much the same, but a funny thing happened the last few weeks. As I am wont to do, I was out for a midday work break stroll through ye olde PATH system in downtown Toronto which sometimes takes me through the bowels of the flagship Bay store. Walking past the luggage area a couple of weeks ago I was shocked, shocked I tell you, to discover a sizeable amount of retail wall space completely empty with nothing but white shelves. What could this be I asked, wondering if Saks was just getting on with the inevitable and devouring the Bay from the inside out. Then I saw a sign, literally, which said "Toys". Immediately I thought, what are the chances that any of this will be for Lego, thinking back over recent Christmas seasons when the stores would have a handful of random lego sets and other toys scattered on tables in random places like ladies lingerie and power tools in one of the most bizarre retailing decisions I have ever seen. Well today we have the answer as I walked by this approx 75 foot long space only to find at least half of it looking like a Lego store with sets wall deep and price signs yet to be added and skids of Lego boxes still to be opened. So when I got back to my office I checked out their website and sure enough there is a very full selection of recent Lego sets on hand. Basically anything on their website was on this wall. City, Star Wars, Super-heroes, Nexo, Friends, Elves, Princess and Ninjago all to be had.

We have a returned player in the game, at least until Christmas I'd imagine anyways, and as a token of my community goodwill I will post any sales related news I see from this location going forward over the course of my travels as in store deals are often the best and unadvertised. After I've indulged first of course.

First the Eaton Centre Chapters dramatically revamped their toy section with a particular emphasis on Lego, and now this. I can only hope that this may be setting the groundwork for TRU to return to a downtown location and/or for Lego itself to add a store downtown. It's incredible to me with the rapid growth of the downtown area and all the families and parents either working or living here that there is not a proper toy store down here right now. My reselling would get infinitely easier (and more expensive upfront) if I could just walk 10 minutes to a TRU or Lego store to stock up.

  • Just received an official email from the Bay advertising their toy selection. Current general online deal is spend $175 online and get $25 off. Try harder Bay.

  • Hudson Bay! Many sets are 15% or 25% off: http://www.thebay.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/en/SearchDisplay?storeId=10701&catalogId=10652&langId=-24&pageSize=12&beginIndex=0&a

  • Ok, which one of you is buying underwear with their LEGO? (this is what came up when looking at the U-Wing ... of course, their site doesn't work with Chrome, can't add to cart)

Just noticed batman, friends and city sets at 20% off at thebay.com

This has been on for a few weeks. Really getting impatient for a Bay Days style discount. They can discount luggage, women's wear, etc. for 80% off every other week.

Thanks Jeff i'm falling behind on the routine and the Canadian forum has been deathly quiet lately.

Crickets chirping.

We are waiting in the weeds...

Does anybody here have the Hudson Bay credit card? If so does the 15% off code when paying with their card stack with sales on Lego?

They have quite a few sets on sale right now 20-30% off then if you could add that extra 15% off on to that. Could be some ok deals then.

I've asked whether the additional discount applied after Xmas time and the staff said no it would never apply to legos. But then again, I've asked this in the store and never tested this out on their online shop.

For those into Star Wars Black Series figures, I just saw 12 or so of the 40th anniversary Darth Vader package at the main Toronto location for $59.99 each.

New coupon code: FRIENDS gives 10% off (20% with HBC credit card)

Some sets are 25% off already. Coupon does stack with the initial discount.

Ends up being ~32% off before tax.

Just compared sale prices to sold prices on ebay. Nothing on offer looks worthwhile. Several that caught my eye, but the discount just isn't big enough to compete with our friends south of the border. Potentially some reasonably good deals for personal builds though, 32% isn't bad in that regard. Needs to be 50% to compete with their KMart malarky though.

Numerous sets at 25% off.

Looking for another place to spend airmiles cash and thought of getting HBC evouchers.

Hudson’s Bay has a “Canadian Cyber Monday“ sale on today only with 20% off many Lego sets including Lego Boost which I’ve not seen discounted as yet... Newest Ninjago and Star Wars sets also included, but it looks like they don’t have Destiny’s Bounty.

Thanks, picked up a boost for the kids.

Hudson Bay!

Many sets are 15% or 25% off:

http://www.thebay.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/en/SearchDisplay?storeId=10701&catalogId=10652&langId=-24&pageSize=12&beginIndex=0&sType=SimpleSearch&resultCatEntryType=2&showResultsPage=true&pageView=image&searchSource=Q&searchTerm=lego&x=6&y=3

And you can currently use the promo code "VIP" for another 25% discount. The result is 44% off for sets with an existing 25% discount, and 36% off for sets with a 15% base discount. Shipping is free above 100 CAD.

Have fun :)

Of course it's right after most of their sales have stopped. All the Ninjago movie and most ROTJ sets were 20-25% off a few days ago. But I couldn't even check out then because their website was garbage the other day.

Carbon Freezing Chamber is tempting... but i'd need to get 5 to get the free shipping, and i'm too small time now for 5 of one set :(

They're half price at most Costco's right now. Same with yoda's fighter, naboo duel, and some city sets.

Was walking through the Toronto flagship yesterday and they were removing the entire toy section that has been in place since 2 Christmases ago. Might have to change this to a Winners thread as I suspect that’s where these are all destined

I bet that toy section will reappear by October. Toy sections in almost all Canadian department store chains and been very seasonal. Other than Walmart, who else in Canada has a substantial year round toy section? Target might have been the last ones, its all going way of the dodo bird and has been slowly trending like this for it seems like decades.

The Bay has this up for 16 months straight. Before this their toy record was spotty. I sense they may get very little for future holidays as they were still trying to offload Rogue One toys

Looks like they just moved the toys to another floor. Carry on

All LEGO looks to be 20% today (and weekend? with) nothing exciting.

But if you are one of the few like me that still collect airmiles cash, I can move the cash into HBC gifts cards and get my LEGO almost free again. Previously using e-vouchers for TRUs was my strategy for years but that ship has sailed.
