Juno spacecraft carries Lego Minifigures to Jupiter

Featured Replies

This is somewhat old, but recently it has been in the news again due to the upcoming orbital insertion of the Juno spacecraft around Jupiter. I thought it was neat, so decided to share this.

The Juno spacecraft is due to start orbital insertion manoeuvres tomorrow. Once in orbit, it will begin sending data back to earth, hopefully revealing much about the atmosphere and magnetic field of the planet. It will be the closest a spacecraft has ever been to the planet.

The Juno spacecraft is carrying three Aluminium figures. The specially-constructed LEGO Minifigures are of the Roman god Jupiter, his wife Juno, and "father of science" Galileo Galilei.

The idea is part of a longstanding NASA-Lego partnership to raise interest in science and technology among children.
