    i would let it go.  you made valid points as did other folks.  it's not your money being spent on ebay, brickpicker classifieds, bricklink, etc...

    side note : "set filled with common bricks and a fancy box" - this can be said for many lego special / promo sets.  for some folks, getting the entire "experience" has a value when purchasing something.  e.g. the box, sealed bags, the manual, a poster, etc...

     I personally wouldn't buy this on the secondary market for $200 or more, but I see no problem if others want to. I have limited resources, so $200 can get me an UCS set. If I had more disposable income, I'd probably pick one up due to the rarity of the set.

    At the same time, I understand and respect those AFOLs that don't want to sell items they may receive as VIP promos or at comic cons, giveaways, etc., regardless of what they may earn for those items. 

    I was able to bricklink a 100% accurate version of the VIP exclusive bat-pod for less than $100. Had I actually won one, it would have been hard to pass up the $1000 to $1500 I could have got for it on eBay, but plenty of people do it. That's the beauty of LEGO collecting.

    I like when they get "the entire (Lego) experience", I sell "entire (Lego) experience", the more $, the better...

    @Ed Mack beat me to that Slave 1 by mere seconds. ha  it was the last one.

    going into today's event, i thought there were only 2-3 SW sets worth getting based on the 2016 calendar : Slave 1 and Sandcrawler (maybe even the Ewok Village).  i do think the Imperial Shuttle is another one to some degree but amazon and ebay are cheaper. 
    now if you were buying today to build or get stuff for the kids, there were tons of other sets like the UCS Tie, Ewok Village, Takodana , MF, etc...

    i ended up buying (everything was on-sale and for the kids except the Slave 1 placeholder)...

    You have literally just disparaged the entire LEGO secondary market in a few phrases.  It's more than just a few bricks.  It's a highly collectible set, just like many Comic Con and special event sets and minifigures that is worth what people are willing to pay for them.  People pay $1500.00 for a single Mr. Gold.  There were 5000 of those.  Why is $200 for a limited edition (less than 5000 produced) STAR WARS set out of the question?

    Some managers were holding invites for attendees who couldn't pick them up until today (like me) and for managers who they could invite to offset LUG declines.

    Did your store take your invite after giving out the slug set? My invite wasn't taken away but I think another person's was.

    I don't think today's event was about in-store "spending power".  LUGS were involved and then some people got invites from store managers (after asking nicely while there are some who asked nicely and didnt an invite).

    It's a bit thick, kinda blocky. But perfect kids to swoosh around. Especially my 4 & 5 yr olds. The only loose parts are the little details on top.

    Actually both of you are saying the same: Collecting has nothing to do with logic. It is only that each of you comes to another conclusion.

    In the end you cannot really be an investor if you insist on enforcing logic on LEGO collecting, you rather have to accept that the whole business model of LEGO investing relies on people making "not financially advisable" buying decisions which you make your profit from.

    I for my part am kind of an anti-consumerist, hardly spending any more money than really necessary on anything, and I already wonder about 99 % of other people's everyday buying decisions, be it food, shoes, cars or toys. So, of course I'd never start collecting myself because this would be pretty much the opposite of my philosophy. Still, I am very happy about the fact that there are hundreds of millions of people out there who DO like to spend a lot of money on all kinds of stuff they do and don't need (one of them being LEGO sets). Without them the whole economy would not work. So, my own philosophical conviction aside, as an investor I love other people's unreasonable consumption very, very much. If it's their free will to hand me their hard-earned money I won't stop them from doing so. They "are willing to pay", and I am willing to cash in. Logical or illogical, abvisable or unadvisable - I just don't care.

    It has 2 unique figures hence the reason I have been contemplating buying it for my collection.  Other than that, nothing.  I wouldn't think this would be good for resale since there has already been like 4 releases.  The last one wasn't that long ago and was a decent set.  This set looks to be overpriced too.
