Not sure if this has been asked yet or not, but I recently got some new Minifigures from Series 15 and my wife pointed out that there were no longer any holes in the top of the heads.  I know there used to be and so many articles pointed it out as a safety factor for minimizing choking.  Anyone happen to know why these were eliminated?

I've noticed that too. A plausible theory I heard was that the changes have been due to manufacturing reasons/trade marking. They used to have solid stud heads until the early 1990's but may have changed to the three triangle divisions to allow for multiple color printing. The design may have helped lock the head in place for multiple print passes, but that also didn't allow for the Lego logo to be molded on the head. The new solid stud recessed design and printing process makes it possible for the Lego logo to be molded on the heads again and still print in multi-colors.
