I have a 3 year old that is interested in Lego/duplo. Should I start buying Lego now given that he will be building in 5 years? I only buy when there is 50% Msrp. This is for personal use and I do not expect to make money.

1. Am I getting too far? How often do you see 50% off Lego?

2. For the sets that got remade often (police station, fire station), are the newer always better than the older versions?

3. Any theme that I should avoid? For example, is today 's technic line technology different from 5 years ago?
