Grabbed one too! Thanks guys :) I've wanted to set up a trio display of the R5, Slave 1 and this one but kept putting it off for other sets.

In for 1, thanks!

its weird that they asked my name and email when I added it to cart.... Don't over buy, I guess.

This is great for people that are banned from LEGO Shop at Home...

I just think it's really weird they asked for my info to see the price...

Cue multiple postings about it being a trap. That being said...I thought it was weird too.

When I saw the tie fighter post I was sad that I was about to spend a bunch of money but then I saw it was Wal-Mart. I don't want s destroyed tie at any price so I can skip. Yay!

Was in for 1 then got back out. LEGO Shop at Home was a more appealing deal to me with double VIP and a Vader buildable figure I needed for my rat hole. Tie allowed me to get free ship on the Vader. Double VIP on both meant I spent $3 more than WM would have cost and I got the Kai poly.

That too. With LEGO Shop at Home my boxes arrive nice and minty. WM box probably would've been as minty as the photo counter  clerk's breath.

The math does not add up. Double vip points are just 10%, and it's not a discount, it's a prepaid credit.

Funny you mention that I just read a story about a Wal-Mart photo counter clerk who sent pics of his nethers to female customers

What?  With a build able vader that's like 225 for a bonus cheap poly bag and the equivalent of about 12$ in lego points.   Cheaper to get the 31 off at walmart

With Vader, double VIP comes to 460 points, so about $22 in store credit, which, for me, is cash in my pocket.

So now we're down to $178 buy in, minus the $7 I saved on Vader shipping (was gonna buy Vader anyway). So, $171 buy in, $3 more than WM and I get a poly out of the deal that I value at no less than $3.

You may think the math is screwy but it makes sense to me and I'm happy to spend a few dollars more to deal with LEGO Shop at Home rather than WM and the potential for a shredded box.

I just friggin pray they don't slap a label on the bare set box and send it on it's way. I had to return 2 SC's b/c those momos haven't a clue...sorry for the OT packing thoughts, @MarxMarvelous got me thinkin....

The memo should say, "always do store pick-up for large sets".  Although, that does add at least $10-$15 for your trouble, so it's a wash anyway.

I thought everything was posted here...

ordering a single set from walmart for delivery to your house is pretty much a guaranteed damaged box.

i have had great experiences ordering 2 exclusive's at a time ( or whatever the amount per case) with site-to-store delivery.

the last 4 SC and EV's from walmart ordered in pairs have yielded mint boxes in LEGO cartons.

also i don't pay tax because i do instore pickup in NH where they have a magical site-to-store pickup counter which is also the photo printing center counter and there is never any line so is also worth the hassle.

I put in 2 orders of 2 for site-to-store pickup  though its awfully early to be getting these.

hopefully some other secret deals turn up.

I guess a little clarification as well.

To me "cheapest" and "best deal" aren't necessarily the same thing. If we forget about the Vader points and free shipping for him and free polybag the delta is $12. I'm willing to risk $12 to insure I get a mint box.

We could also talk about how VIP points aren't the same as capital I could be using for other investments and so on but bottom line is a banged up box evaporates a lot of perceived savings IMO.

It begins to make more sense if your strategy includes buying multiples of this set right now. Opportunity costs of driving to WM for in-store pick up vary as well, of course.
