In the US they are price controlled, for authorized retailers, which I do not believe is the case for Canada, and definitely not in the EU. though clearance is an option after a certain point in the life cycle. And many stores (cough TRU) screw up all the time and group in exclusives with other general sales, and you get coupons that sometimes apply as well (target) that should not. Amazon and some other sites also have 3rd party sellers that are free do to what they want.
