December 10, 20169 yr One difference between 60051 and previous train iterations is the inclusion of a level crossing. Level crossings are one of those irrational Lego setups. The primary parts are relatively common, e.g. http://brickset.com/parts/4211819, but sets with them tend to out-perform the average, see 7936. So while the train itself is not spectacular, the set may do better than previous iterations. I'm curious to see where this one ends up, although I have none stored away myself.

Anyway, for those who have somehow missed out on discounted Sandcrawlers for the last month and a half, good ol' Niko has 'em on eBay for $276 shipped, which seems like the best current price. Amazon has 'em at $287 and everyone else I believe is out of stock.

Jumped on it as a Christmas present for my two boys....and possibly myself. For those who have built this set or have kids who did what is your overall impressions? I'm more of a Classic Space/monorail fan so this particular "modern" train does interest me. But I'm more concerned about my kids being interested. They've never really been into trains with the exception of Thomas and that wasn't a huge thing for either one of them. Like I said, I think I'm buying this more for myself but I want the kids to enjoy it as well. Also, possibly a dumb question but can I use the motor components for other trains such as the Creator line or Holiday train? My son has never been a train guy either, but once you fire up the remote it's a lot of fun. I think as an entry set, for that price, it is great. That price basically covers the power functions, motor, remote alone. And yes, we swapped it into our holiday train.
