Where is this "spare investment money" coming from? It would seem like you're better off investing in that stuff than this stuff.

Diversity is an excellent investment strategy...

Why so much hate? I'm jealous too, but I'm not going to talk down to anyone because of it.

What hate? I'm genuinely curious. With so many experienced collectors/resellers complaining about the paltry returns they're getting on Lego due to so many new speculators jumping on the bandwagon and the increased time to set retirement, it would seem like a strange time to get so heavily invested.

for some people its about the thrill of buying and selling TOYS!!!!!  that little childhood reward system gets a good work out with mass purchases - especially big sets like SOH. i am sure there are brickpickers for who real money is like monopoly money.  there's always a couple of tokin trustafarians or early amazon google investors in these forums. i would do the same if i had access to more capital.  i need to get an amazon business account.  i would have ordered 3 only bought 1 because of limit - snagged 3 from walmart site to store a couple of weeks ago for same price.  up to 5 of these now.  i have researched it and even built one (amazon warehouse) - its ugly and huge when built and probably because of its pricepoint, not widely hoarded.  also the pee-wee architecture SOH is making you 3x what you paid if you bought at BN using your membership discount and much more if you  had gift cards.  so that can't bode poorly for this set in the afterlife.  it is very discouraging however in light of the persistence of the Tower Bridge.  I have 8 of those killing CAGR on the bottom shelf behind some other boxes so i don't have to look at them.

WTF else are ya buying and selling that allows ya to blow 5k on a whim for something which you're "new" to?

I run a $1m/year business on Amazon doing retail arbitrage. I've always sold LEGO, and they're one of my top selling product lines (usually about 150k/year in sales), but I just started investing in the for long-term mostly because it's fun and different.

Great job on the Ant Man sets though.  I think you'll do just fine with SOH.

Grabbed my Birds for about $15 each so I've already cleared the double profit margin I was hoping for. I like Ant-Man a lot better but Birds is one of my top 5 largest purchases to date (by volume) and so far I'm really happy with it.

Also didn't realize so many people on these forums were so hostile to people that have money to spend. Isn't this mostly an AFOL forum? I don't understand why disposable income is triggering so many people.

SOH is down to 183 left in stock, so selling about 40 per hour. Should be gone by 9pm tonight, or sooner once the various deal websites catch on.

We welcome everyone (just keep clicking on those affiliate links).  I think the initial impression you gave (at least to me) was that you were new to LEGO and that you were jumping on the bandwagon/barge.  We've experienced a lot of that lately.  Maybe someone can introduce you to our other BTBP (I think that's the acronym).

hmm, I had an amazon business account, now it seems to not be active.  I applied for one but it will take a day for it to go through....  we will see if there are still some left.

And if those are all business account buyers, the investment potential for this set is doomed.

Depends. Price is back up to $310 on Amazon for Business accounts; they still had a lot left in stock, so they pulled the plug early. Stopped at 182 so it looks like they sold a total of maybe 200 sets today at the $250 price point.

Also for what it's worth, these recent price drops on sets like SOH and EV have been an attempt to clear up warehouse space for the holidays above all else. I would expect more discounts on larger sets in the coming weeks. Currently the warehouses are way beyond capacity. I just toured the local one last Thursday and there isn't a single empty shelf in there right now. These larger sets that only sell 2-3 units a day are taking up a ton of shelf space and it's better for Amazon to break even (or even take a loss) on them in order to get more small FBA items in there that they will make commission on.

If Amazon is only selling 2-3 SOH per day below MSRP we are all doomed.

I don't think so, to me this has never been one of those sets that people go nuts for.  Obviously its probably cooler for people in Australia.  Its much more appreciated in person.  To me, this will be more like the Statue of Liberty.  I dont' think everyone was dying to build the SOL and it is gone years ago and people only wish they had it now.  This will never see those values, but will be one of those unique rare sets over time.

Perks of knowing regional managers that are trying to clear shelf space.

Well, I'll explain why some of the attitudes that you have found on here were interpreted as 'hostile'. Some of us are just regular dudes and gals with day jobs, that do this to supplement their love for LEGO with some cash. We may have one or two SOH, that were purchased and tucked away, waiting for a decent return. With supply/demand ruling the price we all get for our sets down the road, someone buying 20 of these and selling for a 10% profit makes it a little harder for the rest of us with two, waiting for a higher return. Since you have a seemingly large retail arbitrage business on Amazon, it's probably safe to say that you didn't use the affiliate links from this site for your purchase. That is an assumption, and I very well could be wrong. Apologies if I am.

So we aren't hostile, maybe calling it jealously is more accurate. To get some love, it would be awesome if you could share how you picked up Birds for $15 each. This site is very give AND take.

I hope you're right. I'm just concerned about these EOL discounts suppressing initial growth compounded by a high price point.

I'm invested, but only because of these recent discounts. I'm sure there are many others that invested only recently.

The model is pretty large and impressive on display. It caught my eye at the LEGO store last year.
