Might just be the way their inventory systems work with lego, they have to clear it all out before x date because lego is pumping out so many new sets. There could also be disconnects with sets, like the harry potter ones, that lego decided to extend their shelf life, but the stores inventory systems still have retirement this year.

I've had very good success with the large sets. I have a hard time thinking of a large Friends set that hasn't done well to be honest. The medium and small sets are hit or miss, mainly due to remakes, but if bought at the right price it's hard to lose money on them.
