LEGO North America facilities are in MEXICO.  Currently closed.  Maybe mid-June reopening, but then still a couple weeks for production and shipping.

Not closed, they restarted May 14th...

I don't think LEGO gets anything by appeasing a small number of US customers while also annoying their UK base.

Isn't the U.S. LEGO's largest market?

The Mexico plant closure should not affect the UK supply chain yet the UK LEGO Shop at Home store showing likewise "backorder" and "TOOS"...there's more to the shortage than just a plant closure.

Why wouldn't the Mexico plant closure affect UK stock? US stock is still coming in from somewhere... probably a majority from Europe. So they are cutting normal European stock levels to supply the US.

Maybe this is why. I went to Target the other day and found this set with a white tag on the front. I remember someone here mentioned that the Europe version of lego sets does not have the piece/set information printed on the box, but it is required for the US version. It seems to me that these sets are from the Europe to meet the shortage in the US market.

That is correct, the European and I believe Asian markets do not have that information on the boxes. I purchased some Forrest Tractors from Amazon a couple of months ago and they sent me a couple from Europe and one from Japan and neither had the product information on the front of the boxes.

sure...I get that, but what kind of business sense does it make to ship from UK factory to US (for same price sale) than to sell to customers directly in UK? only to have caused a shortage in UK as well?

I don't think LEGO gets anything by appeasing a small number of US customers while also annoying their UK base.

All this type of reasoning goes out the window if different plants make different pieces...then any factory going down affects all.

Small number of US customers? I would be willing to bet that the US is one of, if not their largest customer bases worldwide.

And there is no "UK factory". There are 4 Lego manufacturing plants around the world. One in Denmark, Hungary, Mexico and China.

Kids as a whole are fickle. If they love Lego but don't have access to new sets there is a chance that they move onto other toys/hobbies that they do have access to and Lego has then lost a customer. It makes perfect sense to keep supplying your largest market with your product at the expense of other markets. Business 101...

I should have been more clear.  Small# meaning only a small fraction of US customers will get the sets with the others still waiting on backorders. The current demand in the US market can't be met by allocating some products from Europe (should have clarified Europe instead of UK) and likely only frustrates european customers.

I would be curious on what the UPC code looks like.  EU barcodes are different from their NA counterparts.

Mine had upc stickers placed over the barcodes.

Thanks! How is their shipping track record? Good packaging?

I've ordered multiple things from them over the past two months.  Usually receive the item in 4-5 business days (order today and get it next Thursday or Friday.)  I'd say packing has been good on probably 7 of the 8 items I ordered.  One (that giant excavator) was a little banged up but the smaller sets arrived just fine.  One was in a box that fit exactly to the set.  As always, YMMV.

I've had nothing but good luck with them.  Brown paper dunnage and fast ship.

yeah, if ZAVVI is like IWOOT (US or UK, or whatever the Hut Group calls themselves now)...have now order about 10 big sets ($100+) no complaints

but I have had pre-orders cancelled so that's annoying

Shipping has been super quick to me (in NYC). I've had two larger Technic sets come in LEGO outer boxes, and a BOOST Star Wars in cardboard wrap that was fine. But the London Bus I got a couple weeks ago was just in black plastic wrap. It's in pretty good shape considering (corners a little rounded but nothing major), but then again it had a pretty short route from Zavvi to my door.

Are Zavvi's warehouses for US orders also in the UK - or do they ship from the US?

I've had both but a majority of the sets I have ordered recently came from the UK.  They were still quick though and shipped via DHL.

Shipping, the boxes, packing materials for Zavvi has been great.  They do ship damaged boxes however.  25% of my orders have come damaged with the boxes in great shape.

Just an fyi, Walmart has the Hidden Side High for $75 and the Lighthouse for $30 in store. Most don't have them marked down yet but they scan that price.
