You can go to the customer service counter and make payments on your redcard using a debit card.  Definitely helps this time of year.  Did everyone switch to the new Target Mastercard Redcard this year? Once they switched it to a Mastercard, they bumped my limit up to 10k at least.  I checked the Discover site and the 5% maxes out at $75 bucks and it combines with Amazon spending.  With all the Amazon deals, I maxed that out a long time ago.

Yes, on $100 you save $10 vs $5.  Not that much really.  Also, you are essentially tying up your purchase power to Target, ie you have to spend that $100 on Target to get the discount

Not really that big of a deal considering how much some of us spend at Target.  An extra 5% profit for doing nothing, I'll take it!

Which, IIRC, that purchasing power was tied up for about 3 days last year for me.

I buy my gift cards now and then spend them at the after Christmas clearance sales.

It's a game of inches, percentages.  All business is that way.  5% Red Card, 2% Cash Back, 2.5% - 5% ******, 5% Gift Cards, Discounts, Sales, Gifts with purchase . . .  If you're spending $100k a year on purchases (as many are), that's an easy $5,000 - $10,000 a year without breaking a sweat.  But to each their own as to what they consider "worth it".  Some people would rather do all their shopping on Amazon than pay RRP at SAH.

Think you can only buy 1 $300 card online, but I know in store last year I bought 10 on 10 different purchases.

Yes, before you could buy unlimited in store.  But, I think it was $300 at a time.  I never tested it beyond this however, I just bought another $300 at every stop while making other purchases.

The other thing on this GC deal is that someone wanting to fly under the radar can buy these for cash and shop in store completely off the Target grid (minus facial recognition at the self checkout). 10% off in silence > 5% off with Target recording your every move.

Nothing like gc discussion to get everyone worked up on Sunday morning

Agree, would be better if it was $3,000 limit.

It's time to replace the batteries in your sarcasm detector. I replace mine twice a year during daylight savings, along with the smoke and CO2 detectors. It's easier to remember that way.
