Not available anymore but frankly I didn't think this was a good deal unless I was just missing something obvious or misreading things.

It seemed like it was at RRP but with a $10 GC.  It's available from Target at 20% off to boot and if you use the Redcard, gives you another 5% off.  Seemed to me a better deal.  Still available @ Target for those interested: https://www.target.com/p/lego-harry-potter-beauxbatons-39-carriage-arrival-at-hogwarts-toy-carriage-building-set-75958/-/A-76157593

It was 20% off at Walmart PLUS a $10 gift card for each one you bought. Assuming you bought 4 total and applied the $20 in gift cards to the second purchase you ended up getting 4 for essentially 30% off. So, most definitely better than Target.

Guess it all just depends on how it "seems" to people.

I think this is what you were missing:

The set is $50 RRP.  Walmart had it for $40 (20% off) PLUS you get a $10 gift card (essentially ANOTHER 20% off.)  The net was getting a $50 RRP set for $30 for a total of 40% off.  Your Target example was a total of 25% off.

Ok thanks everyone for the responses.  It was not very clear to see with the deal being expired.  Consider me educated and let's not hijack the thread based on my ineptitude!

To get things back on track, I did find a similar deal for the Hidden Side Shrimp Shack Attack, for those interested.  It's 20% off and bundled with a $10 e-gift card. However with the line being discontinued there may very well be 50%+ discounts coming in the future so something to consider : https://www.walmart.com/nco/LEGO-Hidden-Side-Shrimp-Shack-Attack-with-free-10-Walmart-Gift-Card/629874356

FYI Zavvi has the Technic Defender on sale again for $144 with free shipping.  It is also tax free (depending on your state.)  Use the code DEFENDER at checkout.

Decent deal there as well. Currently Walmart is running their summer clearance. Most Hidden Side sets are currently included ranging from 50-54% off. Shrimp Shack is $25 in most stores. Check the WM Clearance thread for more details and deals.

I really don't see how they can offer such great deals on huge sets, express ship them internationally (for free), and still make a profit.

I have to agree but I'm not complaining. Getting the sets I want for 30% off and free shipping is nice.

I recently noticed they sell a whole lot of other collectibles. Aliens, Predator, blurays, art prints, etc. It's kind of crazy.

If you use 60229 as an example, RRP is £120 in the UK but that includes 20% VAT. So it's £100 before tax which is $126 at today's exchange rate. So they're selling it at retail price to us. Shipping will be more, but they have no storefront to pay for.

The higher discounts become regular sale prices to them.

Here are some hidden specials, literally

They are called Lego Masters bundles but they have been listed under "other building blocks" so they don't show up when you search for Lego at Walmart. They are mostly discounted "Classic sets" with a baseplate added for pennies more. It does also allows to change the choice of baseplate, but that does push the price up. All-in-all, some good deals made better.

So I bought 4 Taj's a couple weeks ago from Harrods on sale for $320. I just wanted to let you all know that their packaging was exceptional. The Taj's came in the original Lego carton. There were 2 to each shipping box. The shipping box was extra thick cardboard and the two sets inside were also completely bubble wrapped. I was so impressed. They must have had $20 worth of packing materials inside the boxes. I would buy from them again in a heartbeat. Now, having said that... It was my first time buying from them so I'm basing this on a single experience. But very pleased with Harrods.

I can second this.  They had the UCS Falcon on sale for $100 off and I was shocked at how quickly it arrived and how it was packaged.  The had the LEGO shipping carton packed with bubble wrap inside a much larger thicker shipping box.  I was extremely impressed with their shipping and the care put in to getting it to me.  Would definitely purchase from them again.
