If TLG does indeed decrease their pricing for some sets like what they did to Hot Air Balloon, I hope they would do the same for the Big Ben. :D

Just repeating this LEGO-related deal that's been on for the last three weeks:

Stack-on 39 Drawer cabinets - $13.99 @ Sears.

Even though they are marked "Hot Buy" they do allow coupons to be applied - current best I can get is $7 off $70 to make 6 of them $12.82 each and then a $10 back on $50 and $15 back on $75 to get $25 back in points. All depends on your coupons of course, but most of these coupons should be available to anyone with a free SYW account.

Is the police station a good deal for $58? It seems TLG always has a set like this on the market. Display value seems average, play value good, investment potential limited.

Who said anything about an investment? ;)

If past results are any indication, then yes - but I am not knowledgible enough to compare this to the previous police station ( which is doing well on the aftermarket ) - I imagine some people like to have entire pieces of a specific release theme. It's a gamble of course, if anyone of us "knew" we wouldn't be here most likely. ;) But at 40%+ off, it's guaranteed not to be a loser, I can tell you that.

I bought one because I did not have a police station and wanted it for personal collection. Not sure about investment.

The previous police station looks better to me, mostly due to the baseplates which really make a difference (also like the minifig outfits better).  That being said the value of the current depends a lot on the next.  If they continue to focus on not traditional sets (forest, swamp, island), and do not release a comparable station soon, this one will be a win at 40-50%.  If a new one comes out soon after retirement, then this one may not due well.  Of course this is also all dependent on it retiring this year, which may not happen.

I grabbed one for my son from the target sale, but not likely to invest in these.

I doubt I'll be selling any of these for $200+ like I did 7498.  Even at $150-$175, well, ummm, you do the math.

In the spirit of Darth's "In the spirit of Daily Debates" post, I think someone called you a loser.

...god I've missed this thread.

The old one from 2011, 7498 is currently worth around $125 according to BP. You could make a few bucks after fees and shipping. Seems like we would need a gap in the traditional police line to make $200+ a possibly. Great deal if you are planning on building it, for an investment would want a lower cost basis.

Is it just me or the box art made it look like the plane was releasing blue poop??

That's not how you extinguish fires?

By my calculations, at a buy price of ~60, the needed sale price is about ~90. I think this will sell for more than $90 once it's sold out from retail.
