Lego VP of Product Development takes note to himself:

"- Big demand for town hall set, many customers willing to pay $200 each

- Reissue 40183 this fall, adjust price to $199.99

- Buy Billund beach house in 2016 with 2015's bonus"

Well if he doesn´t act, an enterprising Chinese concern could. a 99 USD TH copy would be a very interesting market development indeed. You would imagine a lot of buyers having a moral dilemma over being brand loyal and paying secondary market prices or going for the clone.

As a moral dilemma, it's simple.  You never buy the illegal copy, even if eBay allows it.  But as an economic dilemma for buyers...

Seal code received today was 23R5

Red Five is still alive. Damn. I've got my quota on this so I'm waiting (impatiently) for this to retire.

Hopefully by Sept/Oct

Can this thing just be gone already?

LEGO has to stop production even on popular sets at some point. And if they prolonge the life of one of them, they have to shorten the life of another or at least retire it early. They just cannot keep everything alive forever. So one interesting question for me would be: If for example Red 5 is staying longer than planned, which other set is in return going earlier than expected? Looking your way, Ewok Village...

what about live star?

I was just reading the thread about the Monster Fighters Theme

Perhaps well look back on this thread the same way.

Well, I thought the consensus was that popular sets could stay longer than expected. In that logic DS might not be THE prime candidate.

The X-Wing is certainly Iconic enough to live on, particularly with the new tie available too.  I wont say I expect R5 to last through the year.  But I would also not be surprised if they decided to keep it available and drop of other large sets like the EV and Sandcrawler first.

Now available in French LEGO Shop at Home

I think it's gone for good within the next few months, certainly by year's end.  I also think there are better investments out there, including every SW exclusive (except EV) that's come out since R5.

Yep, no one wants poor little EV.  It's perhaps the least horded set of any star wars exclusive.  So take that as you may.

Least hoarded does not = great investment.  Check out Kingdoms Joust.  The ideal is little hoarding + great set, but for obvious reasons that's tough to pull off.  It usually takes a surprise retirement, as with TH.

EV might not be TH, but it isn't Kingdom's Joust either... not to mention plenty derided TH before it vanished.

Well... Check out the performance of past Endor/Ewok based sets.
