I think to a large degree it's investing fatigue. Normally people would be willing to jump all in at the Red Five, Tumbler, DS but with sets coming back so frequently earlier in the year I feel like many people either have there quota's or aren't willing to throw more cash at something that has been so readily replenished. This set is now not a "jackpot" so people have moved on to other pastures.

If Lego continues constant restocks to combat re-sellers, I can see investing habits changing and those with less patience leaving the game.

I think all the flipping and investing has taken its toll.
Also with all the extended life and potential remakes,  it has slow hoarding to some degree.
My store has many of these (still),   2 years ago, this "Exclusive" set would not have lasted more than 3 days giving the fact that is sold out everywhere.

I think this is part of Lego's plan.
It has worked on me to some degree.
Plus 10240 is a Remake afterall.

It already has - 10 sold so far today and starting price is now 300.

This is where the 'bubble' talk is interesting, I can understand a 10 - 20 percent appreciation a year until the value maxes out at 2, 3, 5 times MSRP, but the price go up by 100 just because it's now retired?

I don't think so. Majority buying at that inflated price so early would have to be investors not wanting to miss the boat...

Anyway, I'm going out B&M hunting for at least one red five.

Except a lot of people are just coming back into Star Wars, like really coming back since VII was well praised. They see the movie. They see the set. They see it isn't available anymore. *gasp*

Perhaps you're correct but if you were to design the circumstances for a set to skyrocket immediately upon any kind of unavailability, wouldn't this be it?

Like many others have reported, local LEGO store has a ton of these (>10) on shelf, all with code 41R5. I believe that is still the latest production code?  It seems they send all of their remaining stock to B&M anticipating the SW E7 frenzy but it's not moving as quick as the new sets.

That's exactly why some sets' price growth flattens out after initial hike. Investors already appropriated future returns to a degree. See how stocks are priced and you will see this is absolutely normal.

not if we want to help ;)

Guys, start buying chocolates and flowers to your wife and start swiping those debit/credit cards or toss a wad of cash on the counter  at the lego store!

For those of us who don't have easy access to a B&M store, it is essentially 'sold out' :(

Otherwise I would take on a couple more just for kicks...

Oh yeah, you are correct but BL is the lowest priced selling platform around - check out Amazon and Ebay and you will see that it is trading there much higher. Any item that comes onto the market for less than 290 gets snapped up immediately. I´m noy hanging around and going to sell off all my reduced price ones ASAP before stagnation hits in. The full price ones can be held long term but we know that this type of set is likley to be remade within 5 years.

Was there any red x wings in the new movie if so i guess I wasn't looking for them or noticing them.  I see can see TLG making an orange or blue one next.

Not having much luck with my "last on the shelf purchases" lately.  Picked up an R5 @ MRSP (taking my stash to an impressive 3).  Box and seals look good apart from a 4 inch gash right down the front.
I know the box condition question has been flogged to death; worn corners, small dings here and there wouldn't really bother me too much.  Considering returning it (last one they had so refund or nothing) but as its retired worth keeping it around? Surely even as an open box sealed bags copy I'd eventually come out flat after fees but wondering if there are better options right now.

I do love this set and the potential for one in a minty box (and i cant actually believe this one is going literally as TFA comes out - if ever a set was going to get a box redesign for an extended run i would have though this would be it).
To return or not to return.... anyone fancy just telling me what to do :)

Feedback of 2. They'll probably just take the hit instead of following through...

And again, I see it's still quoting someone else...

So the mean is slightly above RRP. That listing was live for a whole 8 minutes - great snipe.

Or start again from scratch with another account - the fall from a ground floor window can´t hurt.
