I'm calling them now because I have one on backorder from March 14 that they still haven't shipped despite this thing being available at least twice since then.  Their LIFO fulfillment method is so dang frustrating sometimes especially when they are strict about order limits.  This is ridiculous.

Casually ask them how many they have left...

They told me there were 1,138 left and then asked me if I was a reseller.  Makes me feel like this guy being proded by the LEGO police:

Really? 1138? Are you kidding? Please tell me you are being sarcastic because that would mean just one distribution node has 1138 which strikes me as HUGE. Who knows what has already gone out to retailers, overseas, etc. etc and in previous production runs- there could be 20,000 or 30,000 of this set out there.... Is this going the way of the beanie baby?!?!?

It's a reference from THX-1138 (both the number and photo), George Lucas's first movie (also referenced in the line I quoted from Star Wars).

Watch Star Wars. Don't waste time with THX unless you need a nap.

Google 1138 and see what comes up.

yes...ok... thanks for the obscure reference. It puts me on edge though, thinking that this could actually be the truth - that the market is more flooded than we think and that we're all really in the dark as to production depth.

Yeah, sorry for any confusion.  LEGO customer service did not give me a number and I did not ask.

Usually order 2 at a time & choose in store pick-up so they ship in a case, never had a problem when using that method.

Legoland California has 8 of these right now. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on 2 more. 10% off with my annual pass means that it's like getting VIP points instantly. Drawback is paying about 20 bucks shipping.

It is encouraging that Wallyworld went out of stock so soon. I wonder if LEGO Shop at Home still has inventory because of the max limit of two. I was surprised that they went back to in stock so quickly when it seems like there are still some people here who haven't had old orders fulfilled.

If you want it shipped with labels all over the box and seals popped.  ;)

agree that walmart has a history of crappy shipping though the last 4 Red 5s I got from walmart with instore pickup came in mint shape.

It's available at Lego LEGO Shop at Home now.

Yes, but for those of us who have already ordered and received our allotment of 2 (and don't want to use our mother-in-law's shipping address) that ship has sailed.

Its "available now"  on Lego Shop at Home but still waiting for my backorder........   These sets are as good as gone just maybe not till Aug.

And for the record wasn't the Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter 10215 a bigger let down than the B Wing.

FYI-  Lego Store Vegas has Red 5's instock as well

TRU shipped me 5. with these new posts im starting to get a little shaky on these.

I understand. Scarcity is our friend but with this last production run, it sure did seem like, for the moment, there was a flood of abundance of red fives out there (a SEA of RED). However I am encouraged by this:

As of this writing

Walmart is out

TRU USA is out

TRU Canada is out

Lego LEGO Shop at Home has been sporadically in stock and out of stock

Amazon has 0 for MRSP

We have reports here and there of Red Five on Lego store shelves- but not many, not in abundance. In fact, by all accounts, the in-store stock may be gone within the next week or two- or shorter (the greatest number that I have encountered is 8 at Legoland CA, of which I am contemplating taking 2 of which would drive the stock down to 6.

So. Be encouraged: it seemed like the market was awash in red... fives... but it seems if you really want one right now the more common response from retailers is: Red Five? Stand by!

ALSO: if we are correct that by the production codes on the boxes and TLG manufactures their higher end sets and distributes them early in the year and ramps up production for other sets throughout the rest of the year, R5 is going to be SUPER scarce come Christmas time. For those of us looking for 75% profit by Christmas, this gives us hopes for a realistic ROI.

my

brief

analysis.

only been at this for 3 weeks now.

What you're all seeing now is "The dance". Not all sets do this, but once the horde has the scent of EOL on a highly thought of set, it becomes F5 situation.

F5 being the refresh key on your browser. Folks hitting refresh over and over to try to find the item available at retail because they dissappear so quickly even alerts won't notice the in-stock moment.

R5 is Red Five, which folks thought was Red Alive, but might be Dead Five, it's at the very least F5 for R5.

Catch that jive?
