And this is why the seal codes tell you nothing other than that some set was put together on some date. Some people will say new seal codes so last batch, others will say new seal codes so this is in full production. You won't know which it is until it's too late.

I think you have been around enough to see this happen before! LOL

Big time experience that is,,,

I'm wondering.. once I receive my (2) sets, do you think they'll let me order two more?

They'll let you order them anytime... Whether they fulfill the order or ban you is the real question.

Only one way to find out!

*edit... *OR* ... le sigh*

What's the difference on whether or not this set has another production run in it?  You know for a fact that this set is done by the time the new STAR WARS movie hits the big screen, probably way sooner.  The new X-Wings are different and I don't this LEGO wants to sell an inaccurate and older version of the X-Wing when there is a new version to sell to all of us fans and collectors.

Ed,

I agree with your post other than I am optimistic that the new X Wing will not be another UCS set and fans will also want to own an original trilogy UCS X Wing.

I think that still makes this set a very good investment.  Not R2, Not TH but very good none the less.

I just posted this on the Order Status page.. but mine Feb 26th order for two just got COMPLETED status. Lego store also confirms that they are receiving stock of Red Fives. Wonder if this is a push before EOL or that there was a hiccup in manufacturing and they just caught up with demand.

This set is still wildly popular though, Lego reps give the vibe that these will go quickly.

Of course these will go quickly, the horde has the Red-5 scent.

I got the feeling it wasn't popular. Called to put 2 on hold at local lego store for pick up later in day. Employee questioned why the need to put hold bc "I don't remember this store ever selling one of these." That was mid feb.

I don't think it was that popular of a set before investors started buying them up over the last few months.  The set does hint at retirement, though, which is often enough to increase EOL demand.

Initially, I wasn't a fan of the set as it seemed a bit overpriced and I think many others believe the same.  Although, after building the set it is a very nice display piece, but doesn't compare to the Slave I that goes for the same price.

By all means everyone Red Five is a terrible investment please do not buy any.

Let Johnny buy the remaining ones in inventory and have it fly away into that good night.

:)

That being said, talking to a lego store employee as to how many I could order, they would let me order up to FOUR sets. I settled for three  :cheese:

I would say this I know it has not been popular.  I have a store filled with 2013 dated sets not moving.  I am not buying based on current sales.

I am buying based on Episode VII being out, no UCS X Wing being available and people wanting what they cannot have.

If I go down in a blaze of glory hopefully my Town Hall's will bail me out. LOL

I concur with you Trekgate. I don't expect Red Five to be going for over MSRP right now or even to be out of stock for the next week or two. However seeing that Episode 7 is coming out soon, seeing that this might reach EOL if a new X-wing is introduced, seeing that this is a class to pair with the new UCS Tie, and seeing that it's really just a cool build (albeit expensive), it seems like this would have most of the hallmarks of a good, investable set.

At least, that's the impression I got when I started Lego investing... Last week. :scare:

Let's do some algebra.

A = Star Wars

B = UCS

C = Ship

X = A + B + C

Y = investor skepticism

Z = X * Y

Z = $$$

Obviously your not very good at math.

Have you heard of the B-wing?

Please Ignore the next poster who is going to say "Well I bought it for $100." Unfortunatly CAGR isnt based on what "you" bought it at. To also reinforce my point there are 2 B-wings still sitting at my local Legoland at $200 and still no one has picked them up.  Its been over a year since it retired.

I don't want to be a hater but not every Lego star wars set is a hit.

I still have a hard time envisioning a world where a UCS X-Wing is a bad investment, based on past history of everything Lego, Star Wars, and UCS. That being said, there enough question marks in the primary market for this set to make me invest elsewhere for now. There are too many good sets out nowadays to have to invest in something that I don't fully believe in.
