That miniseries made the Jedi in AotC feeble in comparison.  Not sure why they needed the clones at all.  Mace single handedly destroyed a batallion of battle droids.

Lego

Called it. $500 puts it well ahead of the 10188 piece wise. Still betting on a half and half remake although playset heavy. It's gonna be a good one. I'm already in for two because I can't help but open and build one.

Something like this would be cool. Probably, a bigger chunk taken out of it though, like half of it. And so have it from the front look like its detailed exterior(like the Disney Castle), and then the back half of it, be mostly hollow and skeletal, with various modular scenes, mixed in with the structural engineering parts and such.

This will only be the 2nd SW set to be released at 500 correct? Last one is going for what 10x that price?

At that price though makes me think they will do something similar to UCS Death Star 2. Or as others have mentioned half moon (kind of like the new Cinderella castle) display in the front/play in the back (like a mullet...*waits for Meme with mullet*)

That type I think makes the most sense...you want AFOL to buy it for display and you want parents to buy for kids to play with...best of both worlds! I personally don't care about the price...id spend 1,000 on an amazing set. I know the price scares some people but if TLG has the "bricks" to put a set at 499.99 (on top of it being SW) I don't think they will half butt it..I think it's safe to say it will be a great set. I'm not the one to confirm this but seems to be a minor correlation between higher RRP items released and overall set quality/appreciation over time.

Time will tell but I think it will be a home run! They won't release another AOH....we hope......

If this ends up at £380 ish in the UK it will have to be pretty spectacular for me to shell out that sort of money when i already have 10188 on display.

It will be interesting to see how much longer lego can raise their prices on sets, before people stop buying or their profits begin to decline.  If the set is 500, it needs to be absolutely worth something i'd be willing to pay 500 for.  It can't be something that feels like a 300.00 set from a few years back, because that's not going to fly anymore.  Lego is now overvaluing itself, and I think we are starting to see those cracks in the wall.   Just look at the recent UCS Tie as a prime example.  They can't sell it off at 199.99, but when it hits 139.99, they can finally move them.  This shows that these sets are initially overvalued by the suits, and this seems to be an increasing phenomenon, and it's going to bite them if they keep that mentality going, because a majority of consumers will drop out.

There's quite a lot of things I could spend 500.00 on, and so this set will have to blow me away in order to buy it at that price. If it's even a menial attempt and isn't the greatest star wars set of all time, and sets the bar so high then I don't think i'll purchase it.  I bought the Sandcrawler at a little under the 299.99, and don't get me wrong, I like that set, but I used VIP points on it, so in the end I didn't pay that high of a price.  300.00 for that set was ok, but I felt like 250 was what I wanted to pay for it and that was about what I bought it for.  So, that means this set better be twice as decent and twice the piece count of the Sandcrawler.  I look at Assault on Hoth the same way. 250.00?  I think i'll wait until it's in the 180 range.

I've been noticing that this summer prices haven't increased on many themes and sets that have retired a few years back, and in some cases certain themes values have declined..   I'm starting to think that lego's popularity is starting to wane a bit, and those of us that also dabble in reselling can see some of those cracks in the wall. 

A lot of older star wars sets have lost some value, and other themes are beginning to wane in popularity.  Lego needs to step up their game, IMO.  I think sets like this come with some risk. 

And for all those saying they are going to already invest in this set... I just got to laugh a bit because this set could very well kill the market for 10188, and there could be a lot of people that will lose hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on that set to get rid of them, especially if a bubble does begin to pop.  By then, if this set is overvalued by a hundred or so dollars, it won't be an investment winner either.  Especially if the luster starts to wear off and the intrinsic value of a lego set declines in the eyes of the consumer, which could very well happen.

@fossilrock I cuncur with your statements. In those statements lie the problem. We (AFOLs, resellers, collectors, etc.) are really expecting this thing to deliver for $500, but there is almost no possible way they can meet everyone's expectations.

1. It will be too much of display set, or too much of a play set, or too much of a hybrid 

2. Someone wants a dozen minifigures minimum, while someone else will complain that it's too much like ewok village or 10188 if that's the focus.

3. Some will think it's too big, others too small. Too many pieces vs not the biggest set evah.

4. If it's too much like 10188, people will complain. If it departs too far away from, people will complain.

I could go on and on, but I gurantee the moment the photos get released the bitc**ng and complaining will start a nanosecond later. It will probably make the comments on the Disney Cinderella's Castle look sane.

I'll just start now by saying, I hate it.
