75144 - UCS: Snowspeeder

Mods, please feel free to delete this or move it to the appropriate thread. I wasn't sure where to post.

I found this rumor from another forum. They said this will be an upcoming $200 set. No timeline or additional information. I for one am hoping this is true because I've been thinking of bricklinking this for a couple of years now but am too lazy and don't have much time (two young kids). I love 10129, how it looks, and the size. If this comes close to 1800+ pieces, that would be amazing. I'm also thinking that since they remade the UCS X-Wing, this may actually be true. Crossing my fingers!

I was finally in a position where I had money and could make a pilgrimage to the Salt Lake City Lego store to get this bad boy and finally build it. The one thing I want to say that seems a bit o

Really? Visually, it seems like the snowspeeder is scaled properly to the minifigs. I recall the speeders being pretty large in the film compared to humans.

Not at all... If you look at this pic it looks like it would take the pilots about 5-6 paces at the most to walk to length of the ship.. This UCS version looks like about 20 paces at least

Cause a minifigs only got wee legs.

Having once been seated in the cockpit of a life-size mockup, I can attest to the fact that they aren't all that huge.

I recall it seeming pretty wee when I saw the prop mockup that they had on display at MGM Studios themepark.

It's all about proper scale.  To big or to small presents a lot of problems.  Never thought I'd get to use a pic of the Polish hammer on brickpicker.

I had forgotten all about Ivan Putski - Great memories of watching him back in the WWWF days at the Garden.

Up at EU SAH. 220 euros for France and Spain and 230 for Lego taxed countries Beglium and Holland @c_rpg be careful what you wish for next time!

Italy is getting a break at 210 euros.

Sucks that every "deal" at local retailers is basically null now.

At least we can order at TRU.de when it's 20% off. 160€ Snowspeeder. You know it'll happen.

Yup, I am not going to pay a Euro more for it than €160. Got the UCS Tie (same price at Dutch LEGO Shop at Home, i.e. €230) through TRU as well for €160.

Just takes more patience but you know it will eventually happen. Time is on our side... :)

If this argument still needs settling, check out this picture from Eurobricks:

Clearly the seat is not minifig-size ... it's 4 wide.

I always really liked the underside of the old one (not sure why, just looks so clean), and I don't think they show it in the video - Does anyone have a shot of the new underside?

Eurobricks has this picture, not a full underside shot but you might be able to get what you need from this:

No where near to scale, you would never get this fella to sit right in that cockpit ;)

200 euros in Germany so I expect to see it for 120 or less at some point in the next 3 years.

For comparisons - Here is the old cockpit.

Now, which one looks like cheap?

So correct me if I'm wrong...300 more pieces than the original, yet smaller in physical size?

Instead of looking for builders who can build creative designs, LEGO now looks for builders who can find creative ways to use more pieces.

mo pieces mo money

I'm surprised there isn't a stud shooter with 20 translucent round pieces to boost the piece count.

Again, some people think LEGO do not know their customers.  They at least know a portion of their customers put a lot of emphasis on piece counts :P

The customers that matter.

These days companies seem to prioritise in the following order:

Profit, shareholders, safety, quality, customer.

For more subtle detail they also use less bulky pieces. Regardless, this set is still expensive compared to the original, even with CPI inflation accounted for. In fact, strong dollar should result in lower prices than $200, if they decided to increase GBP prices due to brexit.
