LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 14: Monsters (71010) Feel Guide

In a few weeks, the new Series 14 LEGO Collectible Minifigures: Monsters (71010) will be hitting store shelves pretty soon. The legendary WhiteFang has already done his review over on Eurobricks. To prepare for the release of this set, below is a “feel guide” on how to correctly get the minifigures you are looking for. Note that the dot method on the package isn’t accurate anymore and shouldn’t be relied on.

As mentioned in WhiteFang’s review, there are three complete sets in an unopened box. Below are a distribution you should expect to find in a complete box:

Wacky Witch
Zombie Cheerleader
Tiger Woman
Zombie Businessman
Banshee
Spider Lady
4 per box

Plant Monster
Fly Monster
Spectre
Gargoyle
Skeleton Guy
Square Foot

Monster Rocker

1. Wolf Guy

The long bone piece should be the easiest thing to feel for.

2. Zombie Pirate

There are several things that make him stand out. His sword is the obvious choice while the pirate hat and peg leg are also helpful

3. Monster Scientist

The easiest thing to feel for is the flask accessory piece. His long headpiece could also be useful.

4. Wacky Witch

The Wacky Witch has a couple of easy things to look for when searching for her including the cat, broom, and hat piece.

5. Plant Monster

The large plant head piece is a dead giveaway since it is such a unique piece to Series 14.

6. Fly Monster

The Fly Monster can be found by feeling for the head with antennas, the wing piece, or the pincer on one of the hands.

7. Spectre

Be careful when you’re searching for the Spectre because the Banshee also has the same leg piece. To differentiate them, the Spectre has the hood piece and the chains.

8. Zombie Cheerleader

The Zombie Cheerleader is fairly easy to feel for with her pigtail hair piece and the two pom poms.

9. Tiger Woman

Her whip is the thing you should be feeling for. Be careful of the tail piece because it’s similar to the one Wolf Guy has and can be easily mistaken for it.

10. Gargoyle

The large wing piece and short legs are easy indicators that you’ve found the Gargoyle.

11. Skeleton Guy

The Skeleton Guy doesn’t have many things that make him stand out but the roundness of the pumpkin is helpful.

12. Monster Rocker

The guitar is pretty much the only thing you should feel for.

13. Zombie Businessman

You should feel for the 2×2 tile piece because he’s the only one who has this particular piece in this series.

14. Banshee

Feel for the leg piece then confirm with the hair piece.

15. Square Foot

The bulky head piece and the camera are the things you should be feeling for.

16. Spider Lady

The large dress piece is the only thing you should need to find the Spider Lady since she’s the only minifigure to have this piece.

Thanks. I saw the feel guide before but was hoping the dot codes were still valid, but I guess not from what that is saying.

I stopped at a Walgreens today to pick up a few and the clerk made some mistake and they rang up a buck each.  I went back and grabbed the rest for a total of 8 and ended up with no duplicates. 

For those who have purchased from minifigure plus.  Do they add "signature required" to their orders over a couple hundred?  

I bought 20 without feeling them up at the store. I wound up needing only the Yeti and the Spider Lady. Extra Ghost I accidentally opened without feeling it. I think I also had a tiger lady, 2 Fly guys and a plant, I forget the other one.

Is there a guide for them? I couldn't find one anywhere

Several series back, when I found out about the codes, there was talk that the bump code could differ and wasn't universal.  Someone speculated it was regional; maybe it was the seal code. When I first found this series at a TRU in Virginia I managed to get 10 of the 16 with only 2 unopened duplicates, but they were all from the same unopened box.  I cut off the bottoms of the bags and taped them to a piece of paper to take with me to my local LEGO B&M store, looking for one of the more easily recognizable codes as a verification that my cheat sheet would work.  I didn't have much luck, but didn't put too much effort into it, so I waited until their official street date and went back to a TRU in Maryland, where I got about 12 candidates. DId some smooshing with the other guide that brickset posted and got the remaining six with only the one aforementioned mistake.

LEGO stopped making the dot codes universally consistent by series 6 or 7 (ie. a long time ago).  There are batches of packs with consistent codes, but I have no idea how often they change the codes.  I stopped paying attention to the codes a long time ago

It did take 2 days

Wow… sold out, just like that in 2 days.  Granted, these will be back, but it might be hard to land, and complete sets even harder.  That bodes well for those of us with complete sets for the time being.  I'm sitting on 5 of these, as of today.   

Most new series sell out quickly.

It would have been faster had people been able to login without hickups to S@H today and yesterday

Sold out is much different than out of stock. The originals  are gone from Lego shop at home forever. Never fear though, Lego,will rerelease this series soon.

Ha, I agree.  Lego's new definition of sold out does not = last fall's definition of sold out.  It now also means: check back soon for availability, we are currently producing more!  That's assuming they don't add that to the listing.  Geez.

I was able to complete a series for myself thanks to the nice Target employee who brought out a new, sealed box from the back.  An hour of smooshing later and I finished off my set, plus grabbed a few duplicates of the ones that I like the best and the ones that my daughter wants.  Soon after I started, a guy came up and grabbed about 10 of them.  It took going through the entire rest of the box to finally find a Wolf Guy.  I was getting worried he randomly grabbed all of those.

I think this series is the best one so far.  I have been collecting since Series 7 and this is the first one where I wanted every figure.  Most series I get about 12 of the 16, as there always seems to be a few I don't really want.

Everybody's been saying how much they love this entire series.. Granted it's a good series, but the gargoyle is a cheep cop-out imho. They should've given him an accessory... They could've been more imaginative than throwing in another Frankenstein monster again, and the (modestly altered) zombie.

Sold Out does seem to hold some status as it's usually mostly going to be extremely hard to get at lego.com. 

I think what it comes down to is that lego has stock allocated elsewhere, and they might reallocate it back to the online store instead.  Then its released, and there may only be a few hundred or so.  Once that's gone it's back to sold out, and they have no idea if they can reallocate more.  

General Greivous wheel bike is a prime example.  It did hit sold out status, but as we all know it's not as heavy of a seller as other sets.  But they must have reallocated stock, because it took a bit, but it did come back and has been back for a bit.  If 1000 more were reallocated back to the online store that were instead allocated to a regional lego shop, then it's going to take a lot longer to hit sold out status again when it's only selling 1 or 2 per day (that's pretty much it's sales rate in europe) vs something like red 5 or slave 1 that can sell 30 or more in a day.

To me the sold out status simply means one thing - they may or may not be able to allocate more stock to the online store.  That doesn't mean you won't find them at target, walmart, the lego B&M shops because they have their own allocated stock.  

Anyway, should be interesting to see how this plays out in another couple weeks.  

One thing i'm starting to be certain of, Star Wars is going to be over saturated, while sets like Jurassic World, Monsters, Scooby might not be as easy for people to get. 

Purchased two boxes of these and will leave it at that.

Might smoosh the odd bag here and there to stockpile some more of the figs that I like (Zombies, Plant Guy, Spectre, Skeleton Guy, Tiger Lady)

New Zealand has monster series 14 20% at farmers no limit on stocks it is actually much cheaper than Australia. bargain!
