How much is too much to pay for the RE, I know it is retired but my kid loves the JW sets an this is one we don't have,

is it worth buying 2 one to store and 1 for him?

I know they were sold on sale at 29.99 & 39.99 retail but now people are scalping high.

Dude, people on a web forum can't tell you how much is too much to pay for something. We are all collectors, with varying desires for certain sets. C'mon man.

According to stock tracker every walmart in my area has 2 or more of these for $30. I checked two walmarts, they had zero. Not going to bother checking the rest. I hate walmarts inventory. How do you even run a business without even knowing what you have on hand to sell? Blow my mind.

Lol I thought everyone knew Walmart stock tracker was FAR WORSE than Target, and we all knew how much you hated Target tracker ;)

Speaking from a dad perspective (and a cheap dad that can generally get good deals on lego sets :)), I would have a hard time paying over retail or even retail for any Lego sets for my kids. Primarily because even though my kids love legos, and especially love getting a particular set that jumps out at them when they see it, the enjoyment of building and playing with that set fades very quickly. In other words I think that I could get them a different set for less and they would pretty much get the same overall enjoyment from it - or, could get a bigger set for the same price as a RE and they would arguably enjoy it more because the build is more challenging and/or the end result is more impressive. $70 can get you a pretty great set if you work some magic with sales, gift cards, etc. That being said, none of my kids have a predisposition towards really getting hooked on particular themes, so that probably makes my conclusions about what to get them easier.

From a practical perspective, if this is a set you would really like to get for your kid, I think buying now and buying two is a good way to go about it. Eventually the profits from the second copy should pay for at least a good chunk of the first, getting you much closer to what you would have paid retail.

i would also suggest reading this thread (i know it's 47 pages long) but there are some great posts here.

LOL, coming to a website focused on purchasing LEGO sets to sell for a profit and still talking about those dirty scalpers?

you should have bought it @ $29,99 now all the scalpers are going to ......

i am not sure how many around here landed those $29,99? my area walmart were out of this for few months at least (i believe there was nov restock?). but between june and november only 1 restock. so it had been scarce. Sale price and sale quantity and availability they are very different beasts all together.

I know this is a given, but it is now official in North America region. Lego have officially slapped the retired tag on RE. Interestingly, no retired tag on the high profile sets that have been "Sold Out".

They 'officially' did that on Tuesday.

I kept buying them up off eBay at 60 bucks a piece and from walmart when they came back a few weeks ago.

Happy with the decision.

She's Gone

I nabbed a few off Bricklink at $50-55 myself.  Great set - just needs a little percolating time...

  • 2 weeks later...

All as i predicted...sold all mine in Dec2015, hope to restock but i missed it (no RE in my area), saved couple for my collection.

The kiddo cracked open an RE last night.  The first set we've opened from this line.

Getting high on our own supply.

Now you NEED to open Raptor Rampage for the other two... and you NEED to open T-Rex Tracker and Indominus Rex Breakout so you can recreate the scene from the movie. NEED to.

Not happy with all the sellers(though not surprising in the least) but happy to see ebay prices heading in the right direction again.  You still get the under cutter that is losing money for a quick sell but for the most part, it's back to $75-80 shipped.
