Any idea when the Death Star will be discontinued? It's been around about 4 years...way past normal set lifespans in stores. Thoughts?

  • Hanging is by far the best way to display it.  It has a hollow core, so we used a small piece of wood painted black with an eye bolt and picture hanging wire.  That way its supported from the bottom.

  • I think this pretty much sums it up. A five year old boy (my son) watching Star Wars for the first time ever. The Death Star is... fascinating.  When it is gone (whenever, if ever, that finally happe

Grand emporium, haunted house, super star destroyer

Great ,thanks Stephen , bought a few VW ,I really think that this will skyrocket over the years.

In Ireland,I seen only yesterday 3 grand emporium, mint sealed.179euro each about 210dollars, is that a good price ,are they more expensive in USA.

Look at the recent releases of the Maersk line of sets and I would have thought that they would have performed better. Enough off topic conversation. The Mods will delete all of my posts now.

Hmmm, decisions, decisions....

Just since people are having this discussion here and now...  One or two clearly designated 'unmoderated' threads would be awesome.  An unmoderated retiring soon thread would be a great place to start.  Let members vote with their feet, so to speak.  Maybe it will all go down in flames, in which case you can tell anyone who asks for less moderation in the future 'we tried that once and it was a disaster'.  Or maybe all the folks who feel, shall we say, uninhibited will go there to post and save moderators lots of time cleaning up other threads, while having a far-ranging and at times off topic discussion without periodic thread locks and mass post deletions.  How can the site lose by an experiment like this?

Only if this unmoderated thread could be about fake 10188 Lego to waste everyone's time, talk about returns, use fake coupons, and go off-topic often.

An unmoderated thread would be a refuge from exactly that sort of attitude.  An insulting comment followed by a sarcastic graphic.  And posted by a moderator, no less!

There will never be an unmoderated anything on this site....... people cant even act right when moderated. Sorry not sorry.

This website is a business. It needs to remain professional and responsible. We never know who is reading the site.

I really don't think you will see a free for all at brickset or eurobricks or any other LEGO community

These guys are doing their job and we appreciate their efforts. If members would do what they are supposed to do then mods wouldn't have to do anything. Then there would be no complaints.

aaaannnnnyyyywwaaaayyy... i really think the death star is gone.  besides the backed up orders on Lego shop at home, the actions of TRU.com to remove all its stock at their distributors center is really telling.  then again  odds are it coming back full force is probably in its favor.... afterall it is the LIVE star.

Every topic on the site generally runs 'unmoderated'. It's only when someone decides to post anything considered along the lines of being profane, abusive, or pornographic does the moderation come into play. No one here should ever feel afraid to leave a reply. Simply put, talk with others as you would yourself and there honestly should not be anything to worry about.

This is metaphorically awesome beyond literal words.

Wow, this is so awesome!  Except, there is hard candy in my wallet.

The ability to destroy a wallet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.

Don't remember, but I know I got a few SSDs for a similar price.  I didn't buy more at the time because I was waiting for the pre-EOL deals.  Boy, how things changed.

i bought few DS & SSDs @ $309.99 each from target. and then boom there was additional 20% off on DS and SSD...

bought some more @ $247.99 :) ... i didn't buy a whole lot then. but i clearly remember buying few @ 247.99+tax. that's the cheapest i have ever bought. (this was near the end of 2012... most likely either october or december of 2012 )

so i am assuming if i bought few then i am pretty sure lot of big timers bought a whole lot more.

Probably not in time for 10188, 10240, or 10237, but I wonder if Lego will ultimately be forced to back off on the no discounting of exclusives policy.  At best, I think it's a legal grey area, and it could probably be prosecuted as an anticompetitive practice under antitrust law.  Many years ago, Nintendo settled with the Justice department for doing exactly the same thing, in that case requiring that the 8-bit NES always sell for at least $99.99 at retailers.  They didn't have to pay a big fine, but they did stop the practice and sent everyone who bought a NES system (including me) a coupon for $5 off a game.  Not exactly awesome (the coupon), but that was the beginning of discounts on video game consoles.  I can't see why Lego would be exempt from the same rule, and there's already been some slippage around the edges, like with HH + $30 gift card at Target a year ago, or the Walmart AA + $15 gift card special that ran last year for months.  For newer exclusives with more life left in them, it might be worth waiting for some relaxation of the no discounts policy, whether voluntary or not, before buying them at full retail prices.

What are the recommended shipping boxes for the DS?

The orginal lego shipping box works very nice.

Right, but if those are not available?  What boxes would you recommend for long term storage and for shipping?  Uline vs. Staples vs other brands?

I remember that with the NES. I ended up getting Dragon Warrior.

If you go with uline for the DS, I would suggest one of their super-duper heavy duty boxes (they have a special category for those).  I'm planning to hand deliver mine.  2016 (or whenever) is going to be one long DS drop off road trip.

Exactly. Solid advice. The double strength postage boxes are ideal for heavy sets like this and pretty much expensive sets in general.
