  • Hanging is by far the best way to display it.  It has a hollow core, so we used a small piece of wood painted black with an eye bolt and picture hanging wire.  That way its supported from the bottom.

  • I think this pretty much sums it up. A five year old boy (my son) watching Star Wars for the first time ever. The Death Star is... fascinating.  When it is gone (whenever, if ever, that finally happe

they are making more if we are to trust them....

I'm tired of waiting. I just sold one of mine (half my stock), so probability of them not making any more has just gone up exponentially.  You're welcome.

keep buying. They will make more.

^ this. Lego isn't stupid. If you continue to buy the DS, they will continue to make them. Stop buying; reduce their profit margin because of idle merchandise and, only then, will they stop and go to another line that is more profitable. You DS horders make it to easy for them

It's not that lego is targeting investors, it's that if there is a continued demand for the product,  they will keep making it.  Why would lego care if they overload the market?  As long as they keep selling product they will keep making it...even if the market caters to small lot production.   There comes a time when their capacity and return would favor higher production, higher return product to replace something of the lesser.    This is a place they haven't gotten to yet on the DS, and a large reason why is because of investors.  Not 100% why,  a lot has to do with the new movie, but we can safely say - hoarding has not helped.

I don't see why that is so laughable?  Why would any business stop producing an item which has virtually no shelf life and brings in nice profits?  The name of the game is to make product and sell it off as fast as possible.  I find it even harder to believe that TLG would just stop producing quick/easy profit makers like DS/PS just because some supposed timeline for when a set is supposed to retire.

With the new movie Rogue One about to come out next year, you would think the good people at Lego would be stupid to retire the Lego Death Star before the movie comes out.  Because the plot of Rogue One centers around stealing the plans for none other than the Death Star itself!    So, yes... Lego Death Stars will be a huge seller for The Lego Company next year when Rogue One comes out.   It's not gonna retire anytime before that.

My advice... don't waste your money stocking up on these things.  It's not the right time.

Substitute Rogue One for Halloween and Death Star for Haunted House and we have the conundrum of last year all over!

Unless they replace it...

Why would they replace it?  The Lego Death Star is exactly the same one as in Rogue One.  It's the most perfect scenario for The Lego Company, and they didn't even have to change anything.

If they were to change anything, it would probably be the packaging.  But I highly doubt they'd do that.  But if they did, I guess that would be the only thing to increase the resell value of the previous/original packaging of the Lego Death Star.  Not sure how many consumers/collectors would care tho.

We all also thought there was no way they would retire R2 before the new movie came out......but they did. I don't think  Lego doesn't care what people think, especially resellers.

The lazy option is a new box with a Disney logo and minifigs and keep the same shell. It is a possibility the current one stays as is, but there is more potential in a facelift which could justify a price hike à la 10249....

Why? So they can sell a new toy. Why did they replace Darth Maul' infiltrator a year later? Same reason.

Exactly. Aside from resellers who would be pissed, collectors and kids would go wild and throw money at a new death star. Look at people going crazy over the new MF......which is essentially that same as the last one.

I'm pretty sure they knew R2 wouldn't be featured prominently in the new movie(s).  BB-8 has taken over as the hot new droid on the block.   These toy manufacturers are informed a year in advance on what characters/ships/etc will be featured in these correlated upcoming movies.

From a Reseller standpoint, obviously we hope they replace the current Lego Death Star with a new version.  But realistically it doesn't seem practical from TLC's standpoint, especially with Rogue One's plot centering around the Death Star itself.  Like I said, the most they'd do is probably change the packaging.  So there's the Brightside.

No. We hope they retire 10188 & not replace it...
