  • Hanging is by far the best way to display it.  It has a hollow core, so we used a small piece of wood painted black with an eye bolt and picture hanging wire.  That way its supported from the bottom.

  • I think this pretty much sums it up. A five year old boy (my son) watching Star Wars for the first time ever. The Death Star is... fascinating.  When it is gone (whenever, if ever, that finally happe

sold out doesn't mean officially retired . Otherwise it would have just said retired . Pretty straight fwd to me .

in most cases sold out is a prelude to retired so folks like to just go with that and crack open the champagne

and in this case, the champagne has aged quite nicely...

Are you pulling another R2 on us Trek? ;-P

no sir, no knowledge on the DS.  But its easy to flip a few for enough bucks to pay for another one.

I over bought my quota on purpose as I was already at my quota when the whole frenzy started so whether I 1) Flip my extras and don't buy more and make good margins for a quick flip, 2) Flip and buy more, or 3) sit tight on what I have and do nothing I am fine with whatever the situation is.

It is one of my personally favorite sets so I have an affinity for it whether I make anything on the total investment or not.  that's crazy I know.
But that is what I have my R2's, Red 5's, and other goodies for.  The Death Star for me I hope one day is a big home run but it is not required to be.

I need to return mine so I can get some Palace Cinemas, Parisian Restaurants and Pet Shops because we all know they are getting retired!  They have SOLD OUT notations!

Don't forget the Kwik E Mart.

Like I said, I would have been very surprised to see a set at the price point of the DS go directly from Available -> Sold Out -> Retired. Why not milk EOL a bit like they are doing now with PC and PS now?

Next step would be to keep releasing the DS in controlled quantities ensuring it stays sold out and resellers remain in a buying panic. Do that for a few months until you actually want it retired. Presto, 1 year of sales packed into 3 months of EOL and on to the next product.

Ok. Walk me through this slowly again .

Sold out does not equal retired?

Interesting theory since the "sold-out" status has been used interchangeably with being retired even on popular web sites and YouTube channels.

Sold Out certainly does mean retired for some.  It all depends on the dogs you run with.

Flipping 40 death stars to make 400 bucks so you can buy 41 death stars?  Ok.

you forgot a 0 at the end of 400

I get the feeling we were played with this recent SOLD OUT posting for the 10188. They could have easily just stated OOS and a date, but someone at LEGO decided to rub it in.....We are MAKING MORE! When is the last time we have seen such a message?

was just on something a week or two ago, can't remember for sure but was there, maybe PS, sure someone has the records

Yup, PS...

Just imagine someone at Lego going, "Ha! Jokes on you Investors/Resellers!" Very peculiar of them to post that type of message on the set. Just look at the panic buying though, everywhere (correct me if I`m wrong please) sold out very quickly, that`s a huge boost in revenue for this particular set. Maybe they did through us all for a loop.

As a side note, why would they retire this before the new movie comes out? You`de like 7 will only increase the demand/sales. Maybe they want to focus all their products on just the new movie? Though if it is coming back...

Also the way they wrote it looks childish/teasing to me: We are currently making more, SO please check back soon for availability.

Normally they should leave out "so". Or am I nitpicking here?

It was sold out status for a time after may the 4th in uk then came back. Also with the kwik e mart being sold out status it tends to suggest a restock is a good possibilty

Maybe they did sell out , and were done, but have decided to do another run , because of how much was bought up , and all the attention it is getting .

OK. Maybe I missed it. If it has been done before than maybe it's no big deal. Still, it is not usually policy for most sets. It's not like they wrote that for some Chima set.

They probably received re-orders from every retailer also...

That's what I think happened.  It would make complete sense because the feeding frenzy on Death Stars that went down over that weekend was complete chaos and insanity.

The Tumbler and Santa's Workshop had similar notes.

Improbable at best.

Highly hoarded sets. I guess the next question that will be answered is if the restock reaches Target, Amazon and Walmart.

I am not so sure about the Tumbler being highly hoarded. It still has limit 1 on SaH. And I have not seen it at normal retailers yet.
