Hey guys!

 

I came across a very talented Japanese builder, who makes videos of his pop-up building creations. From what I can gather they require more than 10K pieces and take him more than a year (200 hours) to make. What I'm more interested in though is how he generated the instructions and got the piece numbers at the end of this video:

 

 

Did he use the Digital Designer to do the entire thing first?

Take screenshots of each layer?

Figure out the piece numbers for each? 

Is there some other tool he used to do this for him automatically?

 

Quite an amazing monumental effort either way.

He probably used a CAD program such as LDraw or MLCAD to build the thing digitally then loaded the model file in LPub to create a custom set of instructions. I haven't fiddled around with those bits of software much but I do know you can modify quite a bit to where you could achieve the same style of instructions in the video such as displaying part numbers instead of images in the "pieces for current step" box or showing current page out of total.

O.M.F.***. Those are incredible.

This is so complex it makes my head hurt trying to figure out how it works.
