DadsAFOL, I am going to hijack your initial post here to put what I had written up but couldn't post because I had no idea my internet just went down, but you still get the credit for finding it first
 
Today, Ed and I are very happy to announce that the BrickPicker Price Guide now includes current pricing from BrickLink.  This has been a request that we have been asked about MANY times over the past few years and there wasn't really all the much we could do.  We asked and while there was interest, not much could be done with the old owners of the site.  A few days ago, I received a note from the COO of BrickLink asking if we interested in moving forward with what can be considered a information partnership between the two sites.  BrickLink is also including a link to our price guide on all of their catalog pages. 
 
The BrickLink price values are based on a rolling six month period, so make sure take that into account when you looking at the prices.  Newer sets that have just gone EOL will see a greater discrepancy until the time and average catch up.
 
 


 
We are also including BrickLink marketplace information with a direct link to their catalog to look at and purchase sets.

 
 
I hope everyone here enjoys the access to have the values for the two largest marketplaces all in one spot.  Hopefully this will be the first of many chances to work with BrickLink moving forward.  There will be an opportunity to add different features with currency and different regions.  I will be looking into those options soon.

 

At this time it has been announced on BrickLink and honestly, I have no idea why some Bricklink members are so upset.  They will have the opportunity to earn the business of people that are serious about buying LEGO.  With the Bricklink set prices on every Set Guide page, there is now the opportunity for BrickPickers to check out prices and sets on Bricklink.  This is added exposure for Bricklink sellers that they didn't have before.  As we always say, price your items correctly and they will sell.  This applies not only with Brick Classifieds, but with Bricklink as well.  

 

I am not upset at all by some of the reactions, Ed and I have come to expect it.

I searched but didn't see any forum post about this.  The BrickLink catalog pages are now linking to Brickpicker.  That should drive lots of new traffic.

They called it a link exchange. At first glance this seems like an odd partnership since the market places are in direct competition with each other. I am sure Jeff's announcement will make it clearer.

We share information. They get ours, we get theirs. We will also send new members their way with links on the set guide page and visa versa. We will pick up new members and the Classifieds could benefit as well. Their sales can increase if their prices are lower. We become the Ultimate LEGO Price Guide.

Just FYI, Jeff, there are a couple posts on the BL forum that following links lead to error pages, etc.

Yes i know. I think I already mentioned I have no internet and I know of a server issue that I can't get to. It will eventually be fixed but right now everything isn't going my way. No one more upset than me right now

Blog.brickpicker.com is on the same server. That is why there are dead pages. It will be fixed. I just have my cell phone right now

Wow. So many negative responses. I mean, not wow, this is Bricklink. Should be completely expected.

 

All that was added was a link to BP price guide. And BL gets the same here.

Don't worry about the negative comments.  We have heard it all before.  The sellers and members that know its good for them don't really care.  They welcome the business.  Everyone here can welcome the data.  That is why it is all good.  We are happy and the people working at BrickLink are happy.  The rest will unfold.

BL forums are among the most drama-filled I've ever witnessed, even after 20+ years on the internet and even including gaming sites populated with hormonal teenagers. I wouldn't let knee-jerk reactions there faze me a bit.

I have always consider these two sites to be complimentary to one another.  It's great to have everything in one place, on both websites.  I go back and for all the time.

 

Thanks for adding this.  I think this is a huge benefit to everyone.

Fantastic. Glad to hear the new owners opening their ears to the many other LEGO databases around.

 

Though I bet that Jeff/Ed have already thought of this, it would be pretty cool to have an "eBay-mode" and "BrickLink-mode" for Brickfolios to get both values in a future version.

Fantastic news, and well done.  I don't get the complaining over at BL.  *Anything* to enhance the market and provide a viable, low cost alternative outside of eBay/Amazon should be welcomed by all.  This is a nice step in that direction.

This is fantastic! It will be much easier to compare the data from Bricklink and Brickpicker!

Just read their forum posts in response to the announcement.  Their haters are too funny. It's like they'd prefer to live behind the Berlin Wall or something.  I just hope  those people don't come over to our forum

Long timers are not happy since they associate BP with any perceived negative changes to LEGO investing.

 

On the positives, you should hopefully be able to start having valuations/charts for minifigs now.

 

Hopefully the day will come when you could stop using ebay data altogether (it's very expensive, and to be honest, doesn't really work).

The concept of Free Shipping in the US plays a huge role for us north of the border when looking at the value. Our shipping costs are much more.

Also, some sellers still charge high shipping rates in the hopes of making the buy price more palatable. This helps boost international sales because the import taxes are paid on the purchase price and not the shipping.

And lastly the GSP program also skews shipping because it might cost the seller $7 to ship to EBay but the buyer might be paying $100 for shipping, taxes and brokerage.

To say it doesn't work at all is a bit of a stretch. Tracking the number over time and comparing monthly gains is a huge positive. But if you don't check recent sales for an item you could easily be leaving money on the table for some sets and losing on others.

Always check recent sales.  It's really good for insurance estimates and trending.
