Two of our more popular threads are "What LEGO set(s) did you buy today?" and "What LEGO set(s) did you sell today?" These threads are filled with great information. But we all know LEGO bricks are about "building" LEGO sets and models, so why shouldn't we talk about it on this site as well? I mean, many LEGO sets that are fantastic builds are also investment winners, so why shouldn't people share some of their experiences of build and set quality that might affect LEGO set values, either positively or negatively? Let us know what you built today and your overall thoughts on the set. Don't forget to leave more in depth reviews in our LEGO SET REVIEWS section...

i have a "batch" needing the LEGO "bacta tank" treatment; just waiting on the price of peroxide to go back to normal.  I originally saw it on a JangBricks youtube. Any tips for a first timer?

Watch some computer restoration videos from The 8-bit guy. He has some great retrobrighting tips (plus otherwise awesome retro computing content).

just saw a youtube of 8-bit restoring a Commodore 64..kind of addicting watching such a waste of time & resources (seriously, using an industrial 3-D printer to re-make some old keyboard inserts!)...but the fact i couldn't stop watching meant it had some value....also learned that using tire shiner regularly will stain parts of your driveway and wrapping old wires around components can burn into the plastic shell.

I'm now ready to take my Clif seat at the end of the Cheers bar.

More of a "what did you build in the past month" picture.

• I picked up the Grand Emporium off eBay two years ago for about $180, a bit below the usual going rate. It was advertised as mostly complete and indeed was only missing about 10 common parts (somehow I don't have spare 1x2 white slopes in my bulk so I haven't quite finished the roof yet). I wasn't terribly excited to build it but I ended up really enjoying the process and I really like the final result. It reminds me of some of the buildings my wife and I saw when we traveled to Europe that summer. 
• The Troll Warship was sort of an impulse buy. I've always wanted it (The Green Dragon!) and ended up with two partial lots in January that I hoped to be able to complete one from at a bargain price, but I was still looking at another $40+ if I really wanted it complete with all minfigures. I ended up winning one complete at auction on eBay for a total of about fifty cents more than I'd invested in the two lots. I already sold off part of that incomplete version for more than I expected, so once I sell the extra Green Dragon I'll probably come out a few $ ahead on the initial two lots, but not a good hourly rate, ha. Live and learn. I'm happy to have one complete and to have finally deleted it from my saved searches on eBay! 
• I processed another 15 used sets from a bulk lot of partially built sets that I got locally last year and have sold most already, but I kept that Clone BP - those troopers look great! 
• Finally, I ended up having to buy the Dewback set  rom one of you off eBay as I missed it before retirement, but I want it to go with the new Bantha set...A really nice small build! 

There is a lot of terrible stuff happening in the world at the moment, but I'm thankful for my family's health and I've enjoyed the extra time to build and sort LEGO as a pleasant distraction. I reinventoried my very small supply of used parts on BL after a couple of inventory issues in January and sorted them out of plastic bags and into nice containers (you can see two of them in the background). Those may never pay for themselves as used parts are only a small part of my BL revenue, but it was worth it for the peace of mind of knowing I have what is advertised and that I can find it much quicker. I've done some MOCing, built the original 76021 Milano yesterday, and I am excited to start another project (or 5) soon (tonight).

Just built the Modular Garage while listening to John Mark Comer's "God has a name" audiobook.

The book is better than the set, but it was still nice to finally build something in lockdown.
I don't think it's a keeper for me, but will hold on to it for a couple of years and let it appreciate first  

Got in a few pieces I was missing to finish off a 8459 Technic front end loader. I picked it up locally last week for $10 and had to order $5 of parts from Bricklink (that's with shipping).

Last night the ARC-170 was one of the most fun builds in a while, this one was one of the most annoying. I don't know if it was just trying to fit all the hoses for the pneumatics correctly, or if I am just not a fan of Technic in general but I was so glad to finally be done with the build. The finished set is really cool, and I do love the play value of the pneumatic functions, but I am not sure it was worth the frustration of actually building it.

Rebuilt 7676 tonight. It’s not as sturdy as our 75021, but my son wanted me to dig it out.

I pulled a 7676 out of bulk a long time ago. I’ve got it in a box, just never built it. Guess I need to do that now.

I think 75021 is better build all the way around, but IMO, the minifigures are better in 7676.

I would say the build techniques.

Yesterday I built the 75094 Imperial Shuttle Tydirium set I originally bought to resell but decided to keep it instead because it is an excellent set and is my favorite ship from the original Star Wars trilogy.  Exciter1 gave me a $10 Kmart coupon shortly after I joined this site to help me save a little bit more on it, I will never forget his kindness and him doing that

The minifigures lined up for a class picture of sorts and the white bricks really glimmer. I am definitely displaying this one in a room out of natural light to keep the bricks nice and white.  My only minor complaint is the use of the rather flat Trans-Black Windscreen 1 x 6 x 3 instead of more a curved one.

My ultimate goal is finding a deal on the 10212 UCS Imperial Shuttle and I can hopefully find a score like Brickvoyeur did a year or two ago!

We have worked our way to the 2nd floor of Assembly Square modular.

what's special about THIS particular build is the boy and I finally got "mommy" into a LEGO build...I was able to entice her with one of the spaces being her occupation...and that we can display the model at her office.

Do you just organize all of your bulk by part type and then pick and choose what you need for what you want to build? Im starting with my retro bricks and sorting those by brick type, then I was going to add in my newer ones, but those are still bagged by set.

Luckily didn't get this in bulk. It was in a tote by itself, the same with the 10188 it came with.

3065 Olivia's Tree House

There's a story behind this one - for about 9 months, when this one was still available (2011-2013), it would randomly go on sale.  And every single time, I'd miss out on it.  It became an obsession mine to pick this one up.  Finally grabbed one off of eBay in 2015.

Finally decided to put it together yesterday.  Cute little build.  Makes me want the Ideas Treehouse even more.

We built 75230 The Porg over the weekend. Not the best build but the kids liked it In between games of Battleship and Uno. 

It’s alway a pleasure building the 10175 UCS Vader Tie from 2006.  It is starting to look dated but still a nice looking set.

 

It’s been nearly 7 years since I built my first 10175.

 

The 1st pic is from 2013. It was a nice pickup then at $85 w/ the manual. Only needed some elements that were bricklinked for less than $8 with postage.  

 

 

This pic is from today. This set came with the box & manual. Picked it up 2 years ago at a nice price. forgot the exact price and will need to look it up.  Much better quality of bricks (far less yellowish ones including the rare round cockpit cover) than my original.

Built the UCS Death Star 75159 to add to my UCS wall. Coupled it with a WickedBrick display, but unfortunately the depth was too much for my shelving space so the minifigure display had to go to the left. I may readjust how to display the minis later. Fun build overall though!
