I think it's time to start hoarding these.
I hear it's going to retire soon.

That's the dance my friend.

I have 60 birds (20 sets) in my (cage)storage locker. To be quite honest at this point,:slow:they are an uninvited guest !  But I have NO doubt, when they FINALLY do sell out, they will be easy money.

Patience is key. Who do you think are the ones buying these sets at the moment? Resellers. That's not a bad thing as it leaves out the general public which we hope will crave this set once it disappears.
Until LEGO re-releases Birds 2.0 with updated beaks and cheese slopes.

That will be a plus for birds1 cause Lego won't remake this set. There will be a new series of birds. Bring it on.

As of 8/30/16 It APPEARS to finally be gone from

Gone - Walmart.com (not even showing available at Toy Whiz for some reason?)

Gone - Target.com

Gone - Amazon.com ($54.89 best shipped price)

And of course Retired at Lego.com :)

Is this one FINALLY sold thru?

I'm unfortunately going to be building a flock of birds fighting with a bunch of dinosaurs the way things are heading.
