75098 - UCS: Assault on Hoth

There is a rumored UCS Hoth Echo Base possibly being released in October 2015:  http://www.groovebricks.com/lego-star-wars-ucs-hoth-echo-base-coming-2015/

I'm having trouble imagining exactly what this would look like for it to have the features of the base but also fit into the mold of UCS sets being very 'complete' models. In other words, is a sprawling playset really suitable for this type of set?

I also wonder if this will be the nail in the coffin for the Death Star.

As somebody who is a fan of Star Wars that doesn't own any Hoth sets, I'm still not impressed and won't be buying this. Price aside (PR has 300+ more pieces for $90 less; Disney/Star Wars "tax" is becoming out of control), it's nothing special. Back to waiting for a UCS AT-AT.

I would urge caution here - it's very difficult to understand the scale of the set from box art.  I bet once all of these pieces are lined up on your dining room table (or wherever you build Lego) it will be an impressively sized set.

Plus, there are some sneaky great parts to this set - who doesn't like getting a Wompa and Taun-Taun?  There's also a boat load of minifigures.

So currently no Snow Trooper battle packs and Hoth Attack has a single trooper.
Anyone got any 8084’s left?

Hoth is my favorite OT scene but even I can't stand behind this so called UCS set. Whoever mentioned hodgepodge was right. I'd rather spend an extra $100 and get the helicarrier. And I don't even like the helicarrier!

Can anyone tell if the Luke minifigure has blood on his face or just a black eye?

This sounds like a Star Wars Jokerland. I hope I'm wrong.

Unfortunately I was right.

Quick search through social media and the general feeling seems to be much more positive than here. Could be the same people that think every set is cool but never buy any of them or maybe we here just expect a higher standard on supposed UCS sets.

This is the worst thing ever.  I don't mean the worst Lego set ever, I mean the worst thing humanity has ever created in all of recorded time!

Probably people who don't already have the earlier released sets...

My two main issues with the little info we have :

1. lack of Empirial vehicles ( mainly  at-at) . Thrown in an at-st or something

2. UCS moniker . Drop that .

I will wait for more pictures but this seems like a disappointment to me.  Although it is good for me, I don't understand the logic behind releasing an iconic scene without the ability to complete it.  Like others have said, this is just a mis-mash of things.

Imagine if they took out the Wampa Cave, expanded the Hoth base further, and offered AT-AT's., AT-ST's, Snow speeders and a Wampa cave in separate sets all in ONE production run........

Edited by lego rules

I really don't think it's that bad, though it is a bit uninspired if you have previous Hoth sets since there is so much reuse here.  However if you have none of these sets then it has everything you need - makeshift hangar bay with door, control room, ion cannon, shield generator, turrets, Snowspeeder, Wampa, and Tauntaun.  There should be more value here for the price though.  They could have fleshed out some of the structure for better scale or dropped the Wampa and cave in favor of focusing more on Echo base.

Maybe LEGO is experimenting with "modular" sets concept for Star Wars line.  Kind of like in City arctic sub-theme where you have multiple sets that can be combined to create a cohesive scene.  This set (75098) would be the base / big set for "Hoth" sub-theme.  Then the new 75xxx are the "add-ons" to Hoth, be it AT-AT, snowspeeder, AT-ST, more troops, etc, etc

So when you buy 75098 and all of the add-ons you in essence build the Ultimate Collector Series (a massive series in which all sets need to be collected to complete the whole scene) :D

I was having a good Friday until I saw this...life ruined.

He has a black eye and either blood or scrapes near his eye and chin.

This set makes Ewoks Village look so gold now. I better stock up on more ewoks

At this rate the 75159 Death Star 2016 finished build might look like this.  With a gold seal of course...

The pictures will be gone shortly.  They are under embargo until tomorrow morning -- this was supposed to be a Toy Fair reveal.  There will be an exclusive media channel release at 7a ET and all fan sites are allowed to post the full set of pictures at 7:30a ET.

I agree about the scale - it looks like the main entrance is at least 40+ studs wide and hopefully looks bigger in person

Wow easy skip for me. Is the wampa even new?

Saw this on another forum.

This set is definitely in the "play set" category vs "display set" category.  I agree with BA that they should have dropped the UCS tag.  But if you look at this from Lego's core market -- kids not AFOLs -- this set will be a winner.  The leaked box art doesn't convey the scale.  Both the blast door and the cannon ridgeline are about 32 studs wide.  So this will provide tons of playability for kids.

The AFOL in me wishes they included white baseplates to build a connected snowscape for all of the submodels.  But that would be unrealistic.  Lego rightfully focussed on the 95% market that wants to play vs the 5% that wants to display.
