After getting a wide variety of positive and (even more) negative responses on my "Biggest Losers - Class of 2014" thread (http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/10487-biggest-losers-class-of-2014/), this time I'd like to discuss the investment winners of sets released in 2014.

Here is my personal list of 2014 sets with the most growth potential imo (after retiring some day, of course):

1.) 76023: The Tumbler

2.) 10243: Parisian Restaurant
3.) 10242: Mini Cooper MK VII
4.) 42030: Volvo L350F Wheel Loader
5.) 21108: Ghostbusters Ecto-1

I'd like to get to know your Top 5, too!

I think the Simpsons house will be a winner one day. It's a big set that will likely never be remade and there is a fanbase for it. Keep in mind that people who grew up watching the Simpsons when it was good may still be in their 20's and not buying these things right now.

And I think Ecto is too small of a set and too niche to be a huge winner.

Agree. The every Simpsons ever marathon was a big success. It's always on fxx now and you can watch on their app too. Will always be popular and the set will reach beyond the lego fan base.

I think the Ecto is iconic enough but will be over hoarded like the Delorean.

+1 Tumbler

+1 Parisian

I may be in minority but I have a suspicion that RI may have historical collection value in future years.

My top 5 picks:

1.) 76023: The Tumbler
2.) Mixels Series 1 (and possibly Series 2)
3.) 10242: Mini Cooper MK VII
4.) 10243: Parisian Restaurant
5.) 10234: Sydney Opera House

Tumbler, Ecto-1, Simpsons house are on the list for sure, after that possibly series 1 mixels, Joker Steam Roller, RI, MR and the X-Men set could all do well.

New Mc.are 2014. Might not be super long term, but might be best short term of anything other than RI

How is Ecto a winner when it's commonly available at retail?

Reread the paragraph above his list.

ROI on currently available but not "officially retired" sets:

1) tumbler (sexy)

2)r2d2 (it's r2d2 and is in at least 6 movies plus)

3)sopwith camel

4)metal beards sea cow

5)ecto-1

I wanted to put the RI in there but I have a feeling we're not far from its ceiling already.

First off, thanks for starting this topic!

1  Tumber (It's not even close)

2. Ewok Village

3. Simpsons House

4. Sea Cow (Even though I can't stand this set)

5. Mini Cooper

If I understood correctly, the list is about the sets launched in 2014 that will perform the best so no Bridge or Sopwith here and R2 is doing quite nicely on how own little thread.

Not much love for the fairground mixer, is there?

Ahh this is true. My revamped list (after 2nd guessing myself):

1)tumbler (still sexy)

2)RI (ROI atm is hard to ignore)

3)sea cow

4)ecto-1

5)10672 batman defend the batcave (my sleeper choice)

My predictions:

1) Research Institute (an easy choice!)

2) Parisian Restaurant

3) Fairground Mixer

4) Tumbler

5) Benny's Spaceship

Lets check back on this 5 years from now.  :cheese:

As far as straight up ROI goes:

RI

Tumbler

Mixels 1

Parisian Restaurant

Some other smaller set will probably have like 200%+ ROI and slip right between our grasp. Always happens.

(after retiring some day, of course):

1.) 76023: The Tumbler

2.) 10243: Parisian Restaurant

3.) 10242: Mini Cooper MK VII

4.) 42030: Volvo L350F Wheel Loader

5.) 21108: Ghostbusters Ecto-1

I kind of do agree with that list, however the Tumbler is indeed the ******

With the amount of investors entering the market every day it's going to be a different landscape for these large sets. Limited runs like RI, Mixels,  and Mars Rover are going to have an easier time than large sets on the market for years. Surprise retirements like the TH will weigh heavily too. You gotta think Tumbler will be two years but what if it's five? Or only 18 months? Guessing winners now is fun but a bit futile.

Forgot that came out jan 2014. Its been so long not in store i always think its older!

No doubt. I've only managed two of these, but I don't have a Lego store within 300 miles.
