Magnets - possible investment or waste of time?

Featured Replies

What do you guys think of these new minifigure magnets with the cardboard back? Will they be good investments, or just a waste because the minifigs are irremovable.

Great question!. The Ahsoka i hacked off with a chisel survived the operation, but dunno if she is worth anything. My daughter still plays with her. Ticked me off when they started attaching them, maybe bit into Lego profits not needing to buy a set when you can get the magnet MF?

No, part of their licensing deal is they can't sell figures on their own (hence why we get battlepacks)

When they sold the magnets that came off, they were in breach of the deal (Hasbro has the license to make SW figures) which is why they went back to gluing them on.

Sho thang. ;) I just saw these at a Lego Store yesterday, and that was the first I knew of them. There is a metal piece which runs through their body and into the card, so no chance of redeeming the minifig... :(

I don't really like it. Then again, I haven't been paying much attention to the magnets either. This seems a little weird because it is just really bulky. It's more like a pin to put on a backpack than a magnet now....

Even low appreciating polybags are a better investment than magnets in my opinion.

Agreed.

When you could pull the magnets off and disassemble the figs it was awesome and you could easily flip the minifigs for some decent change, Now they are worth next to nothing investment wise IMO

I would say stay away from these as far as investments go.  Lego crippled any play value to be found in them.  You would be better off buying the set that has the minifigure in it if you can afford it.
