Maybe you should feedback to the Ambassador, if Brickpicker has one? or suggest this on Eurobricks. I would love the return of SW sets with epic no. of pieces. Minifig scale. Cavegod ATAT please. Go and vote for it on Lego Ideas if you haven't already done so. Since 7191 got remade into the 10240 Red-5, its only a matter of time till they remake the 10030. Maybe I'll get a 2-3 10221s and convert it into a 10030. Without the magnets. Heck, in Australia, its cheaper to simply import a used 10030.

Yeah, Sauro, alot of these sales are likely driven by speculative investments. Long term view may be different as scarcity develops. And if Lego updates and rereleases UCS sets (see 7191-10240) every decade or so, this just makes stockpiling UCS sets quite risky too. Although looking at the price guide of the 7191, looks like the price has held steady still and still increasing actually, even though demand has plunged since June 2013, when Red5 was announced, I think. There always will be a makret for collectors. Hold onto stock for too long and there may be a "magnetron effect" (as I call it) where demand drops because the set falls off public/collectors' consciousness.

Its my opinion anyway

LOL... Ambassador? It will be a cold day in Hell when Brickpicker gets one of those. The 10030 will not get remade as a UCS set. There will be plenty of new ships to get the UCS treatment in a year or two.

I will say it is quite entertaining reading all of the view points, speculation, fervor etc. We need another set to do this with. Let's hope for some retirements of something during summer, so we can all pontificate. Good fun, the forum gets a little slow between bursts of eol speculation or new release fervor. I need to go jump in the building thread as my kids and i have been building the modulars and all i can say is wow! Great stuff to invest in down the toad, town hall was great.

I'm sure when Lego ran their may the 4th promotion they suggested it would our the last chance to buy some of the sw collection? (With a pic of the ssd in the background). Can anyone confirm this? Also, what if anything DID go eol?

Don't you think all these collectors will want a 10030 as well as a 10221?

Not everyone. I, for instance, stopped caring about getting a Star Destroyer once I saw the SSD. Not everyone has the space or disposable income to put fifty sets around their house. There are plenty of AFOLs (myself included) who would want just one or two badass ones to display, and given the choice between the two, I'll take an SSD in a heartbeat.

Here It Is....my first LEGO time lapse build. Check it out and let me know what you think. Leave me a comment on youtube and give me a thumbs up if you like it. Let me know if you would like to see more.

Not bad. With the background of the hanger being mostly black the build was a little hard to see. I think it may be a little better if you could zoom in a bit. With a set this large a slow pass of the finished ship would also have been cool. The music was great, much better than the usual pointless commentary that seems to always accompany these videos. I also liked the dramatic intro and to answer the question the best way to deal with this menace is to crash an A-Wing into the bridge. Can't wait to see your next video.

Really cool what you did at 4:05, and overall a top notch video. Like Migration said, you may want to zoom in, especially with such a large build since the pieces appear really small.

Just a question though: Did you make your time lapse using a form of LDD or something? From so far back, I can't figure out if the pieces are virtual representations, or actual bricks.

I had to go back and watch it again, I missed the 4:05 the first time around. I agree, that was a nice touch.

Well, I scored one from lego.com (my first) now that they are back in stock, but I'm trying to cancel the order. I realized the Target.com 40% off sale runs through May 31, and I want to gamble on the SSD coming back into stock there to see if I can then roll 40% off onto another set. Not sure if it will happen, but that would be really cool. Lego has a limit of 5 on the SSD, so I assume that means there are quite a few of them in stock now and they will most likely last through the 31st on lego.com?

Oh, and I guess the moral of the story here is to always check brickpicker.com before ordering... right after the order was placed I came on this site to edit my brickfolio and saw the big banner announcement about the sale.

BOGO is not eligible on the SSD

Actual on-topic news!!!!!!!!!

SSD sold out again on Toys R Us.com

Still available on Lego.com...........for now :)

Believe me LEGO investment awareness has created more competition therefore reducing the margin.  When economy is in a upward trend, why would you invest and wait for couple of years to see the margin you see?  Will you not invest wisely elsewhere?

Everyone EXCEPT all the newbies.

I'm a newbie, but what's to know? Obviously more investors=more supply

I don't agree with the highlighted part of this statement or think it makes any sense. Unless you are gambling in a Vegas casino, you aren't going to get good returns on anything in less than two years. Really, unless your timeline is five years or more, you aren't really investing. You are just speculating. And I'm not just talking about Lego's here, I'm talking about any investment. If you invest in the stock market (which I do through my 401(k)), you should plan on having a five year timeframe at least if you want pretty good chance of getting a return. It takes time for companies you hold stock in to improve their performance, and sometimes there are market downturns, etc, so you have to have a long term timeframe in order to invest successfully in stocks/mutual funds.

So this idea of "Why would you invest in Legos and wait for a couple years to see the margin you see... why not invest elsewhere?" doesn't make sense. You can't invest elsewhere in less than two years. You can only gamble elsewhere in less than two years. Real investing takes time and patience.

And as far as the economy being on the upturn goes, that's pretty debatable. For most people the US economy is still in the toilet. Lego investors are fortunate that our target audience of "Rich AFOLs" has been doing better, which helps us, but in general things aren't better. For example, Walmart just released an investor statement saying that their lower to middle income demographic is still doing badly, which has hurt their results. So a lot of companies you might invest in, especially those catering to the broader segments of the US economy, are still not doing well and that can certainly hurt performance of other investments.

So in summary... there's no free investment lunch anywhere. I have both Lego and stock/mutual fund investments, and I have long time frames. That is really the only way to go unless you want to gamble.
