Do Lego not retire products worldwide at the same time? The SSD is still available on the Lego Australia shop and doesn't have a retiring soon tag associated with it, why is this? Would they just have a lot of excess stock and it will remain on sale until it's sold out? I picked up an extra one using my VIP points last a couple of days ago and it's been picked and shipped so you can definitely still get them.

Doesn't Europe operate as a whole? My Lego ships from Holland so I've always assumed that all European stock levels are the same, no?

I'm a little late but yes, boxes are shipped from many nothern countries (Denmark, Netherlands...) all over europe.

 

So when a guy says "it's retired in Italy" it also means "it's retired in europe".

 

Stock levels are the same on all european LEGO Shop at Home, the only differences between countries are the language (sometimes barely translated, sometimes not at all: check the spanish LEGO Shop at Home) and the MSRP can vary: sometimes it's cheaper in Germany for some reason, and of course the price in the UK is not the same because 79.99 euros can't be 63.45 pounds so it unfortunately becomes 64.99 pounds...

Buy Box is @ 789..that is what your average buyer will look at... most folks click on that and are done with it 

Anyone remember the weight of this think off the top of their head, bricklink says its just under 7 kg but that seems low, only 15.4 pounds plus another 2 or so for a box and packaging.

Biniou, nothing to be ashamed of. There are probably many on this site that have none and would love to say they have a solitary SSD. This set should land some big buckaroonies down the line.

I have only one on purpose. 

I'm not convinced this is a good seller in my country.

France is not the USA, and it may be annoying to ship it through europe, but I don't want to miss the boat so... just 1 set !

I see also in Holland the webshops that offer the SSD for 320 euro are now sold out!!

Managed to order 2 more SSD's for 320 euro each at intertoys.nl.

Last week ordered 2 , boxes were in very good (1 mint, 1 almost mint) condition. Remember someone at this forum saying that Lego tries to sell their damaged returned SSD's via retailers, but according to me Lego is just selling their last (big) european inventory at a discount so they can soon retire it. I also think that they choose Holland to get it discounted because a big Lego warehouse (probably packed with those SSD's) is situated in Zwolle (city in Holland), makes shipping therefore just somewhat cheaper and easier

Well.. I think there is more demand for the SSD in the US compared to Europe, but SSD will in my opinion be a very unique inconic set which will attract not only Star Wars fans in the future, but also general Lego collectors and perhaps also resellers who are willing to buy this set from you at a discount from its market value. If you can afford this set, and you can buy it under retail (like now 320 euro's in Holland) I think it's a no-brainer and you will definetly get a very nice return. You just need to hold for at least 5 years after EOL and don't need the money on the short-term. But that's just my opinion.. I got 4 SSD's, that's enough for me, I just don't want to miss out on this one. I think you can always can get rid off these sets at 350-400 euro, so you probably don't have the risk of losing big time, but you do have a very good chance to get a high return.. But that's my opinion, I'm a long-term investor.

Not "worse" but "not as well".

Star wars fans are far more numerous in the USA than in europe. It is as simple as that.

 

You can have some sets, no problem, but don't buy 10 or 20 because you may have a hard time to resell them.

This is not sure (we never can be) but this is a possibility. And as always, just my two cents.

 

But yeah, you definitely can have one (or two) below retail price, don't hesitate, go go go !

(and keep it hidden for the next two years)

Hey you can't do that ! We do the same here with France and Belgium !

Hard to go wrong on this set. It's the longest Lego set ever (correct me if I am wrong), and is a badass looking ship that is on display in many of larger official Lego retail locations. Plus it is not hoarded widely. In Asia, this set is cleaned up in all the stores. People will want to display a sleek looking SW UCS in their home, a lot more than the upcoming UCS Slave 1.

 

Wait till next year when new SW trilogy is launch, I think the demand-supply situation will be more loopsided everywhere.

History has shown us that many large LEGO sets(including STAR WARS) illustrate similar ROI and CAGR.  I don't think the SSD's growth will be any different outside the US.  Maybe the extended time at retail and/or the discounts could make people think the set is not as popular as it is in the US.  While there can be some truth to that, I would say the "extra" interest in the SSD in the US is from resellers, thus making it harder to acquire and making people think that non-US LEGO fans have less interest in the set.
