19R4 seems to be what everyone has been getting.  The one I picked up at LL CA last week was 19R4.  I've been paying attention to what others have posted to see if it differed at all.  I've seen a lot of people post 19R4 as well.

my personal thinking is following:

   a. it has already got the retirement boost. so this is going to stay around this price for some time

   b. it will appreciate with increase demand for sure with major events. ( may be the movie? will totally depend on the interest level and relation of news to SSD)

   c. also the appreciation will depend on how many are available for selling ... { if there are 100s then it will be faster compared to 1000s vs 10000s }

I agree.  B is the real wild card I think.  Executor is dead, but there are other SSD's in the universe (they're in the post Episode VI novels).  From my standpoint of not actually owning any SSD's, I think it would be awesome if some new SSD (the Bludgeoner or something) was prominently featured and reproduced as a UCS set.  Unlikely?  Yeah, but hoping's free...

I am for once disappointed. With all of the hypes around SSD retirement, I was expecting the sky to open and reveal a chorus of angels singing.

LOL. Nice catch. I can imagine some poor eBayer accidentally researching the wrong set and selling a SSD for the already inflated GE price of $230+.

looking back , those sets @ target for $499 weren't a bad deal. Target makes an extra Benjamin and resellers will milk that cow further down the road.

And that frequency of Retirements does tend to cluster at year end, but items can certainly go retired anytime.

The process of EOL/retirement takes months in the LEGO world and every set is different.  Sets start going in and out of stock frequently is usually a first indicator of imminent EOL.  The May time frame and November time frame are two most active times of year for LEGO set retirements.  In the case of the SSD, the retirement talk began in and around April, it just took a long time to clear inventory.

profit = $15.45

 

move the profit around if removing tax or other discounts. but that's a lot of risk for $15 profit

I don't think anyone was thinking it would have been worth it today.  The future is what everyone is looking toward.

I'm not buying any at $650, but it sure wouldn't surprise me if in the future some people look back at $650 and think, I wish I would have bought at that higher price.

I really don't want to start that argument again, but selling this set at $650 is not wise.  Just sayin.'

After profits from the units I've sold, my total investment in the 5 that I will keep is about $730. Very happy with this result given budget constraints.

if i were you i would hold 1 at least and not sell everything. that would reduce your $730-$450=$330 .. still a good profit plus 1 for the future appreciation.. if nothing more at least you can build LOL

I'm done selling these for a long time! My plan was to reduce my total investment as much as possible before the set was retired, and it worked pretty well. I may decide to sell one when the price reaches $1000, but that would just be to recover the rest of my investment, but that's it.

I really don't want to start that argument again, but selling this set at $650 is not wise.  Just sayin.'

as i mentioned before i have to thank this site and fellow BP'ers that i was able to accumulate significant number of them @ RRP in last 60days.

 

i was also planning to hold onto all my SSD. but seems like i will be making a move from west coast to east coast again for a new job opportunity. this means moving the entire lego stash. which i am against at this time. so i will be reducing the load by selling about 30% of current stash. no firesale rather limiting risk and exposure and hassle during moving. i don't have to worry about movers screwing my "MISB"

If you've got SSD's, you probably shouldn't sell them yet.  If you don't though, this advice to ****** them up at $650ish seems odd.  The set doesn't exist in a vacuum.  You can still pick up 10188 (basically EOL, unless you believe the mystery man who says it will be around for another year and a half), 10211 and 10220 at retail, for example, and for the money/space you are likely to do much better over the next year with a set like that (basically at EOL, but still periodically available at retail).  It would be like picking up SSD at retail a couple months ago.  If you buy SSD at $650, you are hoping for at least an eBay price of $800 + shipping (and even then you probably only net around $60 after fees).  You are also taking a huge risk that lego releases something directly competitive to coincide with the movie, like another UCS SD.  10221 was a great investment at up to retail or slightly above, not at $650

 

 

Well it has a few things going for it considering it's one of the largest Lego Sets and a Star Wars Ship to boot.  If you look at availability across BrickLink and Ebay there are very few SSD's available for what the demand has already shown to be on Ebay.  There are a few hundred if that on Bricklink, and some of those are on both Ebay and Amazon.  So forget any overseas stock which won't be heading over to the US, this set is in very short supply and for anyone who gets back into Star Wars or who loves the series and wants a big Ship display they're going to have this set even at $1000.

I'm not telling people with extenuating circumstances not to sell, but for the regular Joe/Jane who can sit on these, I would suggest sitting on them.

Those sets shipped by Wal-Mart have probably already been sat on.  That said, a thread talking about the best ways to use stacks of MISB lego sets as furniture might be helpful to lots of folks.  I mean, once you've gotten rid of your dining table to make room for stacks of Death Stars, the question becomes "where do I eat?"

 

Pro tip: Placemats aren't enough to protect your MISB boxes, especially if you have pets.
