How did it go with shipping this time?

I have not shipped it yet but I am going to get the best price this time. I was lazy on the first one and just took it to ups. There is a ups around the corner from my office and I often have lunch right next to it.

Hoping the ebay price is good, I would like to start printing labels there.

It would be a good idea to hold some or you'll regret. Just look at the history of some big sets and you'll get a good idea what the SSD can pull in.

I didn't want to sell any. I am in this for the long term hold. I just bought more than I could afford and don't want to carry a balance.

I didn't own any until a few weeks ago. I got all these when they came back briefly on amazon and wm. Kind of bought in a panic but it's all working out.

Is it possible to ship a SSD for under 50?

I'm going to get quotes from everywhere so I'll let you know. I'm thinking it's unlikely from coast to coast, maybe if it was staying in the east. I at least need it to be less than the last one.

Wow that's pretty amazing if true.

On my Fedex account, shipping from zip 10453 (Bronx) to 90120 (Beverly Hills), with direct signature, declared value $600, 17 LB total shipped weight, 27x24x12 overall dimensions, I am seeing $44.27 rate for Fedex Ground (without discount - $53.99 )

But!!

If I manage to somehow pack it into  23 in x 20 in x 8 in box (which means, basically, that I wrap it into some bubble wrap and cardboard), leaving everything else the same, ends up being $23.38 ($26.55 non-discounted)

I shipped it via FedEx ground from AZ to Virginia for $25. $599 insurance with direct sign. You can fudge the dimensions a little, I didn't even know I did but based on your statement I must have :-0

First $10 jump up happens after going from 24 in x 21 in x 10 in to 25 in x 21 in x 10 in

How about smart post?

Don't you have to have commercial agreement with fedex to have access to SmartPost?  Ebay shipping calculator does not seem to offer SmartPost as an option (though I know it is an option when you are actually buying the shipping on ebay), and does not allow to specify insurance and direct sign

The reason why I went with 27x24x12 initially - it is the size of the SSD product box with 2 inches added on every side, rounding up to whole inches. Someone mentioned that UPS requires 2 inches on every side for insurance to be applicable. I don't know what the exact policies are for UPS/Fedex/USPS in regards to packaging vs insurance applicability.

Just buy FedEx ground

If you are not careful with the size of the shipping box, then "just buy Fedex ground" could mean almost twice the difference in shipping price...

FedEx ground thru ebay is 29.98 for a 29x20x14 box at 20lbs. I ballparked the weight as I have not packed it yet. That also includes a 28% discount for using ebay.

USPS priority is 44.50 with a 32% ebay discount. I'm not going to bother with UPS.

Neither of these prices include insurance. I don't see how too add it for fedex, I know it will add about $10 to usps.

The box is recycled from a target order, had two modulars in it. It's a little too long but should be fine.

Looks like after this set retires, this thread is going to move on from "pointless speculation" to "how do I ship ths #$@&ing thing???"

There should a field somewhere to enter "declared value". that's the insurance

I think if you find smaller box (under 3 cubic feet), your rate probably will be cheaper...
